will be in normandy on night of world cup final . bearing in mind the proximity to england and the channel islands, does anyone know if i have a chance of picking up uk tv through a freeview tv and standard household digital ariel ? i believe that the set will tune itself into french tv but i would obviously prefer to watch it on bbc/itv with a english commentary . you never know, england might even get through .if this wont work what is my cheapest option ? i dont have sky at home so it would need to be a free to air system of some kind !

Never tried to use the van aerial in France, we struggle getting a digital picture in the Dales! We always use the satellite dish.

Cheapest way to go, probably....

Suitcase satellite dish for around £50
Tripod (if you're posh, or a bracket and post if you're not) or just prop it up. (the dish)
Second hand receiver off E.bay or new around £70
Sky free to view card for all UK programs £20 for three years
assume you have tv
less than £150.......and I bet people have done it for cheaper than that!

p.s. We have a redundant suitcase dish if you want it, free to good home.

Definitely.

And he does not need a sky box if it's on freeview it will be on freesat so the receiver in the suitcase will do nicely.

Something like this if does not take up your generous offer:

Hi Guys,

Has anyone bought, used or know anything about this portable Satellite system.
Just want to know if it`s worth buying, we have an Avtex tv with built in freeview using their digital aerial which to be honest just didn`t work whilst we were in Gloucester.
So are looking for something that will give us a watchable picture.

Regards Rob and Chris.

Hi Guys,

It *looks* like the one we've got, which just works. Never tried it abroad.

The receiver is a well know German one, selling here at £69:

Maplin are selling the same kit at £99 though they had the odd special B Grade offer at £49.
