When does annual cover only last a month ??
with RAC arrival scheme in conjunction with the caravan club...thats when.
I called RAC to arrange breakdown cover for three months in spain and was told that no single trip cover was available as my motorhome is longer than 7 meters and would need annual cover at £84 a year, fair enough, but this runs concurrent with your UK cover.
So should your UK cover expire soon you have to pay again for another year...wheres the fairness there ??????????????
who makes these rules ? ....OK OK the top brass at the C&CC and RAC !!

There isn't......

However I would look at it as a peace of mind thing.

Where else could you get recovery for that amount of money...if you're abroad?

I have always had the two combined so I guess I cannot comment on the fairness of this decision.

Always found them very accommodating though.

From what you post your uk cover only has a month to run and you add an anual European cover
then they both expire together ie after 1 month, wasting 11 months of Eu cover

The logical thing to do is take out a new UK and Euro cover together thereby only wasting the last month of your old UK cover:thumb:

The CC Insurance for my motorhome also proved another con. Gave me a quote to beat my present insurer and increased my excess from £250 to £1500, told them to go forth.
The CC are becoming very dodgy at offering members discounts. How about some honest offers without 50 miles of string attached, sorry can't do that it will affect our LARGE profits.

Ive just contacted ADAC and dependant on thier response will go with them, just hoping size restrictions dont include accessories and in questioning the following -

For ADACPlus members ADAC covers the costs of:
Breakdown and accident assistance at the roadside up to a maximum of
€ 200.00;
Towing following breakdown or accident to the nearest suitable garage up to a
maximum of € 200.00;

My cover runs out in June so 5 months to go, its more a question of fairness, after all it is a CLUB agreement. I have also just read that you can not cancel your RAC policy ???????? so no refunds ???
Now that I cant believe, what if you sell your motorhome or its stolen or written off etc. ?

terms and conditions of ADAC are extremely difficult to understand.

the way i understand it if you break down and its unfixable in a given time then you will get recovered to any destination in europe.

i never did figure out where the € 200 comes into the equation !

this is the bones of an old email from ADAC -

The PlusMembership includes two different Services. One is the towing (Paragraf 25) up to EUR 200.- to the nearest workshop. And the other is the Vehicle transportation (Paragraf 30) to your hometown, we pay the full amount.

this is an email recieved from ADAC today -

thank you for your communication.

If the towing to the next workshop/garage costs more than 200 Euro you have to pay the difference on your own.

The measurements for a vehicle includes accesories such as wing mirrors, bicycle racks and air conditioning units.

Best regards,

Id be very careful with that cover.

What if your RV breaks down and is towed to the nearest facility. That facilty cant do the work and it needs to be taken to another dealers or even worse back to the UK for repairs??:Eeek:

You then have to pay for the full cost less 200 euros for the tow back to the UK. That WONT be cheap:cry:.

Stick with the RAC, ive never heard a bad word said about the cover they give and even though the system seems a bit unfair its still bloody cheap for Euro cover on an RV:thumb:

ADAC do say that if you need to be towed back home they meet all costs, which is fair enough but if its a garage job 200 quid aint gonna go far. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and go with the RAC very unfair scheme, although im still waiting on a response from both RAC and the C&CC.

admittedly its 8 years ago but we charged, for a private recovery, £2 per mile one way.
slightly less to the clubs i think.
£1 per mile really but who wants to pay the return leg? hence £2 per mile.

so that €200 would get you around 80 miles (then)....how far would you need to go to the nearest garage ????

The "nearest garage" isnt good enough when its a 34 foor american RV.
It has to be at least a commercial garage and ideally one specialising in yank stuff for some repairs.
Ive had a nightmare finding a garage that can fit it in on several occasions.
Pappa john this 2 quid a mile recovery seems unbelievably good ? who was it with ?
Supposing your on your way to spain in the middle of now and you need recovering. I can see ADAC billing you big style or dumping you some where that your gonna get the usual mechanics that just scratch thier heads like you get lots with ARVs.

as i said it was 8 years ago

thing with the local garage.....the rec driver/ADAC will know its not feasable to dump you at a village garage where they only work on citroen 2cv's and dyane's unless its a tyre change or something small and easy.
so it should become a full recovery to a destination of your choice.

but it sounds like recovery to the destination of your choice isnt offered by ADAC just nearest garage or home ???
Ive also just had a telephone converstation with Andy at the C&CC and he says this happens a lot and because RACs computer system cant do " pro rata" it wont happen until they update thier system, so its not a case of wont its a case of computer says no.
So until RAC pull their finger out its a case of take it or leave it, in my case 4 months cover for the price or 12 !!
