Route through France : On our way to Spain (1 Viewer)

We set off Jan 6, through France, on our way to Bonterra Park to arrive Jan 15.
We're stopping off at Roses to meet friends for a couple of days. Then hopefully just a days drive to Benicassim.
What's the least troublesome route down towards Perpignan at this time of year ?
What sites does anyone recommend for the travel down through France ?
We've got the ACSI book, and we've used the western route to Biarritz and the more central route of Clermont Ferrand / A75 many times during late summer, but personal recommendations with a view to inclement weather / ehu's / aires / campsites are always welcome.

When we went to Spain last year we sort of went down the western side of France then cut across at the bottom end..The route we took was this ..ish!!

Calais..Abbeyville..Rouen..Evreux..Dreux..Chatres..Vierzon..Near to Vierzon is a great Aire at Mer sur Cher I think it was 5 euros for the night payable via credit card to lift the barrier it's in the Aires book anyway

Vierzon..Chateroux..Limoges..Brive en Gallard..Cahors..Montauban..Toulouse..Carcassonne..Narbonne..Perpignan..Then over the border at La Jonqera

there is a good Aire south east of Bordeaux at Cadallic where you can stop for max of 3 nights. we then went via Tarbes down the N230 and into Spain via the Vielha tunnel which is free and then to Peniscola at Camping Ferrer A good days drive.:thumb:

We went along the north fo France, then to Le Mans (the track is worth a visit) then stoped at Loches (great Aire) down to Milau (another super Aire) Andorra, Barca and then along the Spanish coast.

We follow a very similar route to Mondo, except we have 2 dogs and stop at Marbouie Aire, which is very beautiful on the edge of a nature reserve and river. There is water, waste and toilet facilities and a good bread shop nearby.

Our second stop is Uzerche which is also an aire and free. It is the most fantastic place, in a deep valley with a river below and little mediaeval houses all around in the hills. From March to November the aire has free electricity and water, but in the winter it is open but not serviced. As you can see there is loads of room, an excellent Vets (charges half the price we have paid at other Vets in France) and there is a good supermarket and petrol station as you go out of the village.

Do you go through to Spain? what we need is a third aire after Uzerche - the problem is Mike leaves Uzerche in the morning and swears he can smell the beach at Santa Suzanna, so we spend a very long day with his foot down hard!!

I'd recommend Leucate Plage which is between Narbonne and Perpignon, probably nearly 4 hours from Uzerche but a great location. Right on the beach and alongside a nice little town for supplies etc. Hope this helps
