Fiat Ducato 2.8 jtd Cig lighter fuse (1 Viewer)

I bought a ceramic heater from Maplins to supplement the lack of heating coming from the fiat system. 30 mins later maplins heater not working. Tried heater in my car and it works ok. So, looking through fiat owners manual it tells me cig lighter fuse F44 which is located under panel on left hand side of dash.
F44 (15 amp) fuse is ok. When I remove this fuse the power socket (do not exceed 180 watts sign on it), which is fairly close to the cig socket, goes dead. So presumably the manual must be wrong.

Does anyone know where the cig lighter fuse is ?

I daren't use the power socket for the ceramic heater as if I blow this one then nowhere to plug the sat nav.

The cicular bezels of both sockets light up when side lights are on.

From memory the cig fuse is in the right hand fuse assembly next to the steering wheel. I will find my fiat CD manual and check.

do you have a multimeter with probes ?

if so then connect black to an earth point, then touch the red probe to each fuse in turn.....look closely and you'll see there is a very small bit of the 'metal' fuse blade showing in each end, on top, of the plastic fuse.....touch each end in turn.
the fuse with power at one end but not the other is the blown one.

if the socket needs ignition on then turn it on to check.

a lot easier than pulling fuses and loosing the radio code.

BTW....a standard fag lighter socket will have a 10a fuse.

My (2004) Fiat Handbook gives F53 for Direction lights, Hazard lights and Instrument panel ?

I would check every one, Having had trouble locating a fuse for the hot water system, it was found, clearly labled Interioir lightsoh:

This is what it's like in my fiat ducato 2.8 JTD 2004 reg.
In the manual F52 is front outlet (180 watt power socket adjacent radio), and it should be a 20 amp fuse,..... but F52 is the fuse for the cig lighter, and was a 10 amp fuse. Hence the 120 watt (15 amp) maplins heater blowing it !
The 180 watt front outlet power socket is on F44 which is a 15 amp fuse.

It's gets slightly more confusing :-
In the manual it says the cig lighter should be protected by a 15 amp fuse, mine was a 10 amp and I've replaced it with a 10 amp. And that the front outlet should have a 20 amp fuse, but in mine it's a 15 amp fuse.
Should I 'up' the fuses on these circuits to match the allowable loading stated in the manual, or leave alone and remember to use the front outlet for the heater in future ?
We've proven the manual wrong re fuse location, maybe the circuit loadings are inaccurate as well ?

fag lighter should be 10a...thats 120w @ 12v

secondary socket should be 15a...thats 180w @ 12v

and No..dont upgrade the fuses to a higher one...the wiring may not be up to the extra load.

I'm resurrecting this thread as it happened again...this time on my 55 reg Hobby 725.
Fag lighter fuse kaput, identified in fiat handbook as fuse F44...but it's not...it's Fuse F52, which in the handbook is the 'front outlet'.
And, as before, the fuse ratings in the book don't match the ones fitted in the fusebox.

Bumping this thread again because it was useful for me. Both cig sockets were dead in my RHD Fiat 2.8jtd. F44 was 15amp for the socket nearest the driver (it’s flip cover says “max 180w”) The other socket next to the ash tray does not show a rating but it’s blown F52 fuse was 20amp. This is as shown in my handbook.
