Apologies for posting here asking for info on Slovenia, but there does not seem to be a tab specifically for Slovenia in this Touring section.....and so as Italy is next door......

We'll be visiting Slovenia next month as part of a 6 week chug around France, Italy etc. We have friends in the Capital on whose drive we'llbe staying for 3 nights whilst they show us round the city but.....what other must-sees are there in the country, and anyone recommend other Aires or wildcamp locations in the country please (we prefer not to use campsites).
Many thanks for any info!

As above and there is a huge cave system that is well worth a visit. Cannot remember it's name though.

All the above
lake bled is fantastic pedal cycles make it better
We had 5 days around the area on our way into Croatia
Only spoilt by a break in to van on a overnight stay just over border from Austria on way in from but that can happen anywhere nowadays won't stop us going back

Echo the comments on Lake Bled . Stayed there 30+ years ago on a package holiday. Went for an early morning walk around the lake and stopped to admire a primitive still. Luckily my free sample came with a generous helping of freshly squeezed apple juice.

Only possible downside was a fellow traveller, an old goat named Foot who wore a donkey jacket, whatever became of him?

Been in Slovenia now for 9 days and I have to say we've been blown away by the beauty of the country!
The capital city, Ljubljana, is utterly gorgeous, compact, and totally cycle-friendly.
Just about every body speaks excellent English, prices are very reasonable, and the country side across the whole country is absolutely gorgeous.

Plenty of free or cheap Aires across the country (we use the Camperstop Europe book for our overnight stops right across mainland Europe)
What a wonderful hidden gem of a country.
We will be touring around yet more of the country in the coming week, and I'm sure we'll be back in coming years.

Highly recommended!

Maybe it may be possible for Slovenia to have a heading under the European Touring section of the site?

If there's a Slovenia thread at some point: check out Postojnska Cave: train ride plus walking inside the most fantastic caves imaginable; plus exhibition of cave creatures, including pink salamanders. Then allied to this site (multiple venue ticket available to help save money) 9 km away is Predjama Castle, a great castle built into the rocks.

I agree: Slovenia is a fabulous place. Loved it & would thoroughly recommend ;).

Passed by the town with that cave, but to be honest we baulked at the 48 euros it said it costs for 2 adults to go in, so we gave it a miss I'm afraid.

If you don't explore Slovenia and neighbouring Croatia but just remain focused on France or Spain then you are missing a golden opportunity.....

Though we prefer lake Bovinj which is 20 mins from Bled

My first thought? Much too far but Mappy says it's only 1662 km, that is just 100km farther than Tavira in Portugal so maybe we will.

Moral of this story - pay attention in Geography lessons.

We only live in Haute Vienne and only returned a couple of weeks ago...the journey across avoiding the tunnels and most tolls was fairly easy..

The caves at posjosna are fantastic and well worth the cost, we went last October and will go again the aire at the caves is level wth water electric and toilet disposal on the pitches. You collect a ticket at the barrier and pay and validate at the caves which are only two mins away. The lipacina stud is also well worth a visit to see the white horses . The campsite in the capital is very good and they run guided cycling tours of the city.
