If I had 3 weeks I would gun it down to Spain on the tolls all the way.

2 days each way, 17 in Spain.

I like the L'escala area so about 750 miles from Calais or thereabouts.

Why not go to Slovenia or the northern part of Croatia - some lovely places to see and you won't spend loads of time travelling.

I agree with Chris, but obviously it depends on how far you are happy to drive in a day.

Personally, I don't mind racking up 300+ miles driving a day , so a couple of stops each way and Spain is easily reachable with your timescale available.

We went down to Santa Susanna in northern Spain earlier this year for a bit of sun and our route down was:
Day 1. Calais to Lamotte Beuvron via the A16 (~ 290 miles)
Day 2. Lamotte Beuvron to La Cavalerie (~ 300 miles)
Day 3. La Cavalerie to Santa Susanna (~ 200 miles)

The route back was a similar time frame but took in Carcassonne and then Vierzon before heading back to Calais.

Hope you enjoy your travels choose where-ever you decide.

Cheers
Andy

Spain is really a bit too far with only 2 weeks - by the time you've recovered from the slog down it'll be time to return.

Could recommend SW France - lots of lovely places to see and chances of fine weather are still good.

Wild camping is illegal in Croatia
Many campsites will be closed now
Check Campercontact website for sites open now
A quick route would be via Switzerland
You could also consider Tuscany
Same route and good option for autumn sunshine

we do a biannual trip to Granada (Spain) this time of year, one week drive down there, one week there, another week to drive back, not too arduous, but a lot of driving

interesting, we don't speak Spanish so avoid Spain, do not speak Italian and have never been to Italy, but I would now chose Italy over Spain every time

But that might be Roberts fault :)

Bite the bullet, take the Bilbao ferry and three weeks will get you 2 weeks in Spain.
