they are nice but not cheap.
i did look at them years ago. but ended up with a brown church . roof tent .
mine was one of the very first of this model . it actually had been on the white landrover in their advert pics . they made a different roof rack for me and i had their own tent . that was in 98 . still have it . as you cvan see used it on a vw and a mazda bongo. my lad as also used it on other vehicles .
i did look at another wedge shaped roof tent the columbus . was very common several years ago.
there is always the over camp as well.
i first saw them all as aircampers years ago . in the 60,s .
hope you find one that suits you.
we had loads of fun with ours . mind its hung up in my garage at the moment .

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
Some of the Land Rover magazines might be a good point of reference Jim, these tents & similar have been commonplace on the Lanny scene for years.

Roof tents have been around longer than Lanny's :) I had one many years ago, regular cotton and canvas it rotted away up there. That wind-up one is a little too expensive for me for what it is

What I was referring to was that roof tent usage has a greater following in the off road scene than most other places, so my thinking was that they might have been a good place to research & your certainly correct re prices.

having been to several landrover shows and experiancing off road travel abroad . most landrovers never really go off road but make nice ornaments at shows . mind many have all the gear tents awnings . you name it .
does make you wonder really.

We went to the Overland show at Stratford upon Avon last month, lots of stalls selling roof tents and similar equipment. We also attended a few presentations, one guy who has been involved in the industry for decades advised being careful about max roof weights and said tents plus associated fitments relative to target vehicle. He also advised that you are still leopard or lion dinner in said roof larders when in Africa! :)

I have watched it six times...

I think it was a fairly quick erection... :giggler:

I'm not sure that the enginnering is that good!

It seemed to take a lot of wiggling and jiggling to fully extend it!

What if some joker nicks your ladder in the middle of the night ? Is there an escape chute ? Or are you stuck in there with that lass all day, and would you care ?

Most of the roof tents I see about are the 'pram hood' type. Once you get proficient any would be easy to put up. There are also a lot of quick erect ground tents including a triangular one that rolls up in a bag on the side of the roof rack
