Anyone bought a Giant e-bike (1 Viewer)

Looking to buy 2 mountain bike type e-bikes and Giant seem to fit our requirements for spec, cost and build. Has anyone had a Giant e-bike and if so were you pleased?

Wife has a non electric Giant and been v pleased with build and quality.

Still can't get my head round paying this amount for a bike. Four times what I paid for my first new car. How times change!

Yes, spot on. "Brands", a brainwashing process to maximise our poverty. I know someone said "don't start a phone war, in another thread" but last month daughter was moaning her iPhone as past it's best so I got her a Cubot £50 Chinese 5" phone - "try this" and she is doing everything she did previously. Happy bunny. Fancy having a tight git father who did not get her a £649 iPhone 7.

Not familiar with their eBikes but I have a Giant mountain bike and have no complaints at all.

I've always thought that if I was to ever buy an eBike it would be from a recognised bike manufacturer rather than one of these new companies that only produce eBikes.

It obviously depends somewhat on which range you're looking at but they aren't overpriced considering where they sit in the market. You can pay similar for offerings from companies that aren't proven bicycle manufacturers.

Yes, you could pay £300 or whatever for some lump of Chinese scrap iron that weighs more than than the average lorry, isn't sized correctly for you and is horrible to ride but I don't know why anyone in their right mind would. Personally I'd rather walk than ride something like that.

I was looking at that same model Giant on the weekend and also Cube. Was really impressed with it. Did I buy it....not yet and that is only because I don't have the funds because we also want to get a e bike for the wife as she struggles with her back so every bit of help for her is good. Good bikes are expensive. When I was into my mountain biking years ago, I spent £2000 on a canondale full suspension mountain bike, and that was about 25 years ago so to spend just over £2000 on a e bike now seems ok.

Had a look at a Giant ebike but not that impressed, looked expensive, in the end bought two Orbea ebikes with crank motors, not cheap at £1700 each but hopefully will last a few years.Also Spanish so perhaps will not fall foul of the Spanish Mr Plod.

Got a giant road bike .its ok but not what I expected from an ebike .the pedalling still takes a lot of doing even though its a bit easier..wouldnt buy another ebike that was pedal assist only.. And I know that's the legal way now...

Choose whichever e-bike you opt for my recommendation would always be to try (i.e. test-ride) as many options as you can before you buy.

There is a good UK e-bike forum called pedelecs.co.uk where you can get some tips, hints guidance and advice.

Our selection process started in Germany and took us to Dover, North Yorkshire, and then finally to the West Midlands involving several test rides and many hours researching the internet in between.....and I'd narrowed our search down to bikes with 20" wheels!

You'll be surprised at how the bikes measure up in terms of build, design and performance once you get to see them up close and personal!

I know there are many excellent retailers out there but one I would certainly recommend is OnBike in Worcester.

Ignore the 'penny pimchers' and the 'nay-sayers'
Giant is a great bike brand and the design of the bike is very attractive.
Maybe better to check out independent or specialist review sites than a Motorhome forum.

I've had a Kalhoff Agattu for years, bought from 50cycles. Still going strong and on original battery. Go for a crank drive not wheel drive and preferably one with autosensing that drops the drive momentarily while changing gear. I'm humming and haaing about buying a new impulse drive Kalkhoff with gates belt, trouble is that there's nothing wrong with my Agattu so finding it difficult to justify.

Thanks for all the good advice. Certainly won't be buying without trying. Likely to go for the more expensive range with either a Bosch or Yamaha motor. Cheaper models always have heavy frames which never ride the same. Will be off to Worcester to try the range at OnBike.

Giant make good mountain bikes my neighbour has one so do a few of my son in laws friends who are into serious off roads but these are standard bikes at over two grand a pop.
Before we bought e bikes had a look a Giant they seem a bit of a miss match a bit cheap and nasty not up tp the standard of their standard bikes. Better to stick with German & Austrian brands who have a name for quality e bikes.

Have been to OnBike and was amazed at the range on offer. Service excellent, no pressure and lots of advice. Have bought 2 mountain bikes one Scott and one Ghost (German) and absolutely delighted with quality and price.

Hi another newby who strangely has no motorhome I am retired a one time mechanic I normally spend my life 50% UK 50% France.
Previous motorhomes Bedford Dormobile (the original column change job ) 2 that I can't remember the make of, an American built Barth bought in Florida and shipped after 3months to the UK, followed that with an Arctic
Fox truck camper on a Dodge pickup, I am currently searching for a Mercedes Hymer from the 990's up to 20ft long if anyone can help.

I have resurrected this thread hoping that two years later someone with some experience of living with an e-bike will give us the benefit of their knowledge, range was always my concern.

I've had Cube for years although not elec assist! I would most definitely stay with the brand if I was going to buy one.

For us after initial use is the fact that we no longer go 6 or 7 miles and have to turn around because my wife can't go any further.
It is clear that our batteries are good for a range of 30 to 40 miles giving us the ability to cycle for a day out. My advice is go for a bike with the largest battery available 500 watts.

With ebikes you have to be realistic about how far and how often you are going to ride them. Then decide how much you are willing to pay.

I think for many people they think they will use them far more than turns out to be the case, for us the opposite was true. When we were looking it was amazing how many retailers would not let you try their products, we bought a pair of ASBikes and are still pleased with them 3 years on (original batteries and still the same range).

I am not a TDF contender and never will be. I like old railway and traffic free rides. For me it is about getting out and about rather than getting hot and exhausted.

Wife has had her Giant electric pedal assist for 6 months now. Works really well for her.She can cover 30 miles in hilly coastal Devon quite easily , in terms of battery capacity and her own physical capacity, on her non assisted Giant hybrid bike 2 or 3 miles was difficult. Quality seems good. We paid £850 for a demo model which personally I think is reasonable

Yeah it is but you get what you pay for! Succumbed in the end and bought the new Kalhoff (50 cycles made me an offer I couldn't turn down) .
