I have been offered a £6k discount on a 2016 Autotrail, paying £53k otr. It seems ok but I think I could get that on a 2017 model for the same money. I think its worth waiting to go mid October and risk losing the deal.

Oh, this buying is so difficult!!
Are there good deals to be had at NEC

Have you asked dealers for prices of 2017 ones?

We bought our new van in June 2016 as we knew the prices were going to rise and they have. Also they have now dropped the van we wanted so lucky we bought.

Yes, but they only quote the RRP. I think its all bolloax because they no doubt will give the same discounts.

Thats not much more than 10% I would expect that on a 2017 model, they are already starting to build 2017 vans so on a 2016 van I would expext a minium of 20% more like 25% would be reasonable.

We are in a similar position. I went to a Dealer last month and they insisted that with exchange rates and 2017 engines the prices would be up 15% - so "buy one off us now!". Now I'm reading websites that are saying 2017 prices held to 2016 and the vans are better mpg. I've decided to wait until the NEC and see what is on offer, it seems to be mostly based around 'special deals' on the packages, so if you want extras it may be better to wait. The other thing that I've noticed is that some dealers are getting frantic to move 2015 models, if there are still 2016 ones around after the show the deals on them will be better too.

On the face of it, you'd expect continental vans to go up in price significantly in 2017, given the big devaluation of the pound this year. And even most UK-based converters have to buy Fiat cabs/chassis.

Having said that, I have read in a MH magazine that it is hoped some prices might be held next year, which I found surprising - guess we'll have to wait and see?

the dealers will tell you anything to get a sale. truth is new van sales are dropping with people being cautious about brexit etc its a buyers market so play them off against each other and save big money

How soon do you want to be on the road?
Is there anything fundamentally different between the 16/17 models?
How long do you intend to keep it?
Whatever deal you get today will be reflected in the resale price down the road?

I think the 6k is a resonable discount and you could get extras on top. Also you get the van now. If you order at the NEC it will be next year sometime.

I think I would be happy with March next year. But equally happy to happy to to off trooping in late October.. Length of time, probably around 3 years.

I agree about the resale price, 2016 and 2017 are around equally priced but in three years, the 2017 will be worth more.

What's happened to the forum?
Can't believe nobody has tried to warn the OP off buying a British van, or suggested self importing from Germany to save thousands.:D

I think it will come down to how buoyant the market is discounts will be bigger if they struggle to sell but if m/h sales are still booming a bit off is all there will be.

In the motorcycle retail business it is really a toss up still.
If the sales are booming, dealers will often discount for several reasons, not the least of which is to out do competitors..
Equally, if the quarterly sales quota is not met they will discount to reach the figure to get their manufactures bonus

I suspect it is about the same in most retail situations, including motorhomes

One thing folk should remember though.. A discount is not a right.. The dealers have to make a living ( and believe me the overheads are damned frightening ! ) and should not be berated if they do not offer money off..

Don't think you will get the same discount off an ordered motorhome as opposed to an instock van. The dealer will be trying to sell off his older models in preperation to welcome new stock.

Do you imagine if he has two of the same vans side by side in his showroom, '16 x '17 you will be offered the same discount

I would take the discounted one as i can't see you getting the same % discount until later into 2017.

Good luck whatever you decide.
