Long term a few years now.
Been on a long tour 5 weeks, ok not so long, of Scotland. Had to hold van on clutch not for long on many times uphill on passing places which were very steep etc. I have noticed clutch slipping on changing into second gear , only a bit and only twice . Its an oldish van, done now after our tour, over 80 thousand miles. To me a clutch is a serviceable item like tyres brakes exhaust etc so understand.
Clutch would probably last a long time yet but it will need changing . Its a hymer 680 2.7 merc . Not a transverse engine so allot easier , not having to work through the letterbox opening bonnet .

I could do the job myself if i had ramps etc and was a few years younger , its not a pain in the arse to do.

Any recommendations of good workshops or offer of ramps welcome , and any advice on good workshops , was thinking of Dave Newell etc .

Sadly Dave Newell doesn't fit clutches, sorry.

D.

In edit, why did you have to hold it on the clutch?, does your handbrake not work?

Handbrake works a treat but some of the places no choice but to hold on the clutch for a short time, 1 in 4 steep passing places and behind about a foot , a good old drop :Eeek:.

Asking for advice around the south coast , but anywhere really in uk that are recommended to fit a clutch , on a sprinter based hymer .

I still don' t understand why it was necessary to hold on the clutch instead of applying the handbrake?

Ah yes, another serviceable item. ;)

Sorry Wigster, not much help I know ;) and I can't help you with anywhere near the south coast either. :(

Good luck with it though. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We live in the van so anywhere in the uk not stuck in one place .

Avon Carriage Company The ridge Woodfalls. 01725 514777.

They run one or two Motorhomes which they rent out and have massive ramps and pits for MOT on large motorhomes.

Only 15 miles north of Southampton and they've always done me well.

These guys just north of Peterborough are friendly and accommodating. They've done work for me in the past, which I've been happy with, and I know they will do clutches including on A Class motorhomes. http://www.hollisandbrown.co.uk/

Edit: This is a better link http://www.peterboroughmotorhomes.co.uk/
These people are right on my doorstep (literally), but because @wigster was looking for somewhere near the south coast, I didn't offer the information.

I have to say, they have a very good reputation, and Neil (the senior partner) is very helpful. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Not far away from you at the moment mate . @Jaws
In that case contact Simonds coach services in Diss.
Sh!t hot service, and good mechanics.
When we had the clutch done on the Miller they quoted £620.
When I went to collect it they apologised and said it was easier than they expected and it was £410

A quick update , had three part clutch , dual mass flywheel and mot at http://www.peterboroughmotorhomes.co.uk/ today.
All parts LuK . Great service and kept old parts for inspection.
You should have given us a shout. That's Hollis & Brown, right on our doorstep. How long did you have to hang about waiting for the MH?

Cheers,

Jock. :)

@JockandRita
It took most of the day . We were given a lift into Deeping and caught the bus into Peterborough for a wander around.
Would have been great to meet up and put a face to a name (y)
