When we bought our MH it came with a Fiamma door lock fitted to the OUTSIDE of the MH
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiamma-Sa...01-/371138799551?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
as a matter of security i installed 2 x dead locks on the front cab doors , but now im wondering and maybe just want peace of mind ,,, SO i wonder / want to know how good or bad from a security point of view is the Fiamma lock fitted to my habitation door.

as the reason i fitted the two dead locks to the front doors was i seen on here how easy it was to open the front doors of the fiat.

I like the idea of the deadlocks, even though I've not got around to fitting any myself .

The only concern I have with the Fiamma lock is that it advertises that your not in the van?

Yip that's mostly true , but at night if somewhere "dodgy" i would lock the hab door from outside, lock 1 off the cab deadlocks from outside , then enter the other cab door, close it ,, wind window down, lock 2nd deadlock , then wind window up , then lock vans central locking.

Years ago they had a rather nasty ad showing people struggling to break through their double glazed windows of their home, which was on fire.

I know that you could always get out of a window pretty quickly, but the image of being trapped inside a burning building has stayed with me a long time, and M/H are hardly renowned for their fire resistance.

Why go to the trouble ? The windows are such an easy point of entry, do additional locks really deter ?
Fiamma locks surely advertise that the van is empty.
Personally, I prefer the closed curtain/blind approach - there's always a chance that someone is inside - a very good deterrent...

I agree, I cannot sleep if I feel I could not get out easily.

My natural instinct is also to be able to exit quickly but I suppose it depends on your perception of risk,

There are accounts on Fun of people being robbed while they sleep but I can't recall anyone posting that they had to exit the MH quickly because of a fire.

Not long enough!
If I leave the van in the evening, I leave the top of the blinds open a bit and the lights on, so hopefully it looks occupied.
The hab windows are only perspex, so I should imagine not difficult to break.
If I felt that insecure camping, I would move to somewhere I felt safer.

Hope that's not because they couldn't get out to tell the tale:(

Unfortunately, if they want to get in they will get in.
I have fitted millenco cab door catches fitted to the inside of the door, they have a small arm which turns to sit against the B post so that the door can't open.

I've also got a millenco locking catch on the Hab door. - this can be operated from both inside and outside.

Many people say that they don't like the Fiamma hab door locks as a thief knows you're out when it's on.
My Millenco looks exactly like the Fiamma version from the outside and it's operable from both inside & outside - so that's just a personal perception.

I'm now looking at the Windows.

Where I store my van, some caravans have been broken into by prizing the windows open and breaking the catch.
There's a German company who specialises in strengthen locks for motorhome Windows - they're good but not cheap.

But then what about the sky lights/roof vents?
You can go on forever.

I've got the Growler alarm fit and I'm hoping that the multiple flashing LEDs will be enough to make the potential scumbag think twice about mine and move onto the more easier target parked next door.
Maybe look at making a little box with an LED connected to a battery and placed on view or even a laminated picture of a dog placed in the window may be a good cheap deterrent.
Either way, I'm sure what you're doing will be suffice and hopefully more than what your neighbour has done making them the easier target.

3 skylights , a ladder plus habitation 4 windows , i think we will be alright that way, but yip with me working in the fire protection trade , that was one of the 1st things came to my mind, plus i have a fire extinguisher.

well they would have to climb in and out of the windows with any goods, also with the blinds closed all they have to do is wait untill the coast is clear ,force open a window , jump in , then they are free to move around the MH trashing it in a hurry without anyone passing by being able to see then, as you are well aware loads of people walking past a MH always have a look inside it with their eyes as most of us are nosey by nature.

We put a dog bowel by the step...someone said I should write 'Butch' on the side!

From the fire aspect I have to agree (as an ex fireman) that securing yourself inside in such a manner that makes a quick exit difficult is not a good idea!

If anyone is in any doubt...here's a reminder of my friends Burstner Caravan on fire by the side of the road! Start of fire to burnt out wreck....15 minutes!

if you arrive at a place to stop when it is getting dark it is hard to judge if it is safe or not , i would always treat a place as unsafe until i've been there a while, that's just the type of person i am.

This is what they always tell you when it comes to home security , so hopefully this would apply when it comes to the MH

I like the idea of a dog bowl :)
I do have a quick escape , its called a large window at the side of our fixed bed which you can easily fit out in a hurry if needed, same way a burglar could climb into it if needed.
from fire or theft we will never be safe , i think we all know that for sure

Sorry to be a pedant, but burglary is entering a building as a trespasser with the intent to steal etc, so in the case of a motorhome you are on the lookout for a thief, not a burglar!

Sorry again!
