Last week I had a little jaunt to Norwich.
I went to school there, and then college where my life changed as home left me!

Anyhow - not been back since I left, so some 45-50 years.

Stayed on the C&CC site on the city outskirts... £9.60/nt no EHU.
It's a pretty site - and convenient for the city

Access might be tight for larger units, and there's a bit of noise from nearby train lines. Google maps is your friend.
Site facility block is small.
For me these things weren't an issue.

As for the trip down memory lane - it was a bit of an education & a bit disconcerting.
So much was the same, individual businesses had survived decades. But lots had changed too - mainly the road & traffic management.

I took many photos of course but few would mean anything to anyone but me...

But a couple of picturesque ones:

School sports field.

Mousehold Heath up towards Britannia Barracks - nearly killed me at school, cross country runs & undiagnosed asthma... Nearly killed me 50 years on, just walking up !

View over the city worth it though:

Walked some 18 miles around the city over the two days...

Good excuse for a pint or three in student pub haunts

Given the supposed state of the pub trade these days, it was heartening they all seemed to have survived (y)

Edited to add:
Just had to mention Captain Americas, a burger joint - was still there, still the same after 45+ years! Back then it was new & innovative... now its "retro" :D.
I remember their first 'Dollar Bill' menu... Then in 72, a 8oz Deluxe was 90p  !!!!!... Last week it was £11 (a bit higher than the rate of inflation but not unreasonably so).

Your thread sparked a memory - can you remember the Zacs caravan up on castle meadow, which was the 'beginnings' of Captain Americas?

OMG
Zak's, of course - the only place to satisfy the late night munchies after the pubs & clubs had chucked out.
Many a night queuing in the freezing cold :D

Where on earth did you dig that pic up from?

Other than sixteen years in Essex, I have lived my life near Norwich, fabulous memories of carefree young days , the sjxties were incredible , the Samson & Hercules, Studio Four, the Gala etc.
Norwich and Norfolk a good place to live with limited dense population and roads and services still coping.

Don't forget the holy grail of music, the Orford Cellar, heaven for blues fans in the day.

I agree larrywin - not a bad place at all.
My sons have headed for 'life' and I've made a bet with them that in 15 years or so, they'll be wanting a return to quiet

Also live nearby in an expanding village. Went to college away and first job out of the area. Moved back to have kids! Much slower way of life. Norwich really is a fine city.

That's a bit unkind to the good people of Norfolk isn't it?

I will show it to my in-laws:D
