Phone call this morning from No 2 Son: "I'm in Totnes Hospital, a pile of plaster board fell on my leg."

After collecting said son from Totnes Hospital ("No X-Ray on Fridays" - but that wasn't their fault, the staff were very good) I took him to Derriford in Plymouth.

To cut to the quick, said son has broken his leg just below the knee. It could have been worse. The plaster board might have landed on his head, which would have left us with a bill for a dozen broken sheets of plaster board.

But the MH aspect of this is that we were supposed (hint) to be getting the ferry to France next Thursday. I decided to ring Brittany Ferries but almost put it off until tomorrow. I'm glad I didn't. The options were:

1. Cancel today, lose £35 deposit but get full refund for the rest (£400+) as a voucher valid for two years.
2. Cancel tomorrow and lose everything.
3. Reschedule but I had to tell them the new dates today.

No guesses we chose Option 1. Option 2 was a close shave and Option 3 wasn't too attractive - we wanted to go to France in September and October because the weather should be reasonable. Shift it all back to November and December? Not so attractive.

So the lesson learned is if you are going to cancel your ferry journey with BF do it at least 7 days ahead - I thought we were outside the window, sailing next Thursday but today is Friday. However, they are obviously using a pre-Brexit calender and we got off lightly. :)

Said son, Robert Laidler, is in Shaugh Ward at Derriford if anyone wants to send him some grapes.

I should add Robert lives with us so we are his carers now - for the next few weeks. :)

Sorry to hear that hope he heals well
I hope so. If it's it's just a broken bone it should heal well but as many expensive footballers have discovered knee injuries are very difficult to sort out. If there is cartilage damage it will be bad news.

Can you put a wheel chair (with occupant) on an A Frame and if so is it legal in Spain?

Best advice i can give is go religiously to the physio....DO what he says. Many years after i feel it now and then but at almost 70 i can still walk up to 14kms every day.

It's the top of his tibia he seems to have broken. We haven't spoken to a doctor yet or seen any X Ray's and the subject's grasp of anatomy is at best weak. :) They are going to do a CT scan soon to see where all the displaced bits are. We should have a better idea after then.

No, but you could always strap him and wheelchair into a small trailer

Oh no, that's such a shame. Hope all goes well with his leg but in the meantime I'll send you weather reports from France so you can see what you're missing . (Sorry about my sense of humour :imoutahere:)

Sorry to read you news and can understand your disappointment but better for it to have happened now than when you are on the road as I'm sure you would had to have come home.

You've got that all wrong.

If you're going to ask people to send things to a male in hospital you have to ask them to send him porn.

The comedy value of him trying to explain it to the nurses is unique (y):D
