Front wheel bearing on boxer (1 Viewer)

just got the mot done on this Peugeot boxer m/h I have just purchased, one of the adviserys was a noisy front wheel bearing so I thought I would get it sorted, looked on Internet and the prices range from £20 to £80 with different makes, not wanting to put the wrong one on to have it fail down the road does anyone know what make to use.

one of the largest bearing Manafactures is SKF,

they produce for most of the car/Van Manafactures and you won't go wrong if that's what you fit

I had continuing problems with nearside front bearings on my 05 plate boxer ,a so called Peugeot specialist fitted a cheap one that only lasted a couple of months,ended up getting a better quality one fitted that was better but even that got noisey after a few thousand miles.Never did get resolved before I px 'ed it.

Depending which model and what year you will need some either big or very big tools. You will NOT remove the old bearing with hammer and punch, the drive flange alone usually needs at least a ten tonne press to get it out ( I have a 30 tonne press and even that doesn't always do it). The actual bearing will vary in price depending on model and year, a year 2005 maxi for example will be dearer than a 1995 light chassis version. You will also need a BIG torque wrench, 2000-2007 maxi chassis for example requires the hub centre but to be tightened to 450Nm which is VFT!

My ideas was to remove the carrier and get an engineer to change the bearing, the van is a 1996 model

That could work but how will you undo and retighten the hub but? 400+Nm is very tight.

Well at least tell him how many grunts = 400+=Nm Dave

Not sure about that Dave I will have to look into that one but I do no a man with some very big tools, I should be able to hire the right tools for the job and hopefully save a pile of cash.

I don't think it will have cassette bearings,1996 model will probably be a couple of taper roller bearings,dead easy to fit. my 1999 model had these.

Yes they will be separate bearings but the main problem will be getting the flange out as I said earlier. 400+Nm equates to 3 foot bar, four grunts and a hernia Geo.
