Third party fire andTheft should be considered when leaving the vehicle for a time.
I hope you don't cancel the insurance when your van is in storage?

our van is never in storage , its always in use . the smart is left in our drive which is very secure . , quotes on line want £130 for a month , think we will have to manage with out the car for a few weeks

Since 2005
you could check out the cancellation fees and pro rata charges with your present insurers

they may refund, say, 10 months premium if cancelled after one month and a small admin fee but that shouldnt be anywhere near the £130 you've been quoted.

worth asking them and wont cost you anything to ask.

Just insured my car. We only use it for a few months i.e. when we fly back for Xmas and 2 months in the summer therefore stated 2000 miles only.

The premiums are ridiculous on those short term policies. Papajohn is right. Get an annual policy and then cancel it before you go. It differs between companies but privilege I believe will refund any unused policy (so 11 months in your case) but they will charge and admin fee of around £26, which I think is pretty standard. If you cancel within the first 14 days then you only pay the admin fee.
So if you get an annual policy for £120, to use it for a month is going to cost you around £36, but do check with your individual insurer first.

Try dayinsure.com - I haven't used them myself but they do insure for short periods of time.
