Heading down to the Mid west coast of Portugal soon from Dieppe for a few months and returning up the coast into Spain and Santiago de Compostela before meandering back to the ferry at Santander end of October.

Done the normal routes from the border at Irun via Pamplona or Vitoria/Salamanca many times so fancy a change this time.

We were thinking about going via the Somport tunnel for a change then heading across country entering Portugal via Caceres.

We don't want to go around Madrid so thinking about heading across from Zaragoza and picking up the N122/N110 across the top of Madrid to Plasencia/Caceres.

We're not in a rush and prefer to avoid tolls.

Good route or can anyone suggest nice alternatives please?

Use that route most times on our trips between our two homes in the Charente,France and Alentejo,PT it's a reasonably traffic light route and not too many tolls,we cross the border at Badajoz, peaceful enough.
Quite country winding roads on the PT side.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, which tolls do you mean? I'm under the impression it's toll free
