To save me trawling about all over the place looking, what vans have this kind of layout and specs?

  • A class with drop down bed
  • Under 7 metres and less than 3.5 ton (ideally)
  • Central living area with two opposing couches
  • End bathroom with separate shower compartment, sink and loo.
Not looking at new vans, from about 3 year old would be ideal (up to 10 years is good). In a Hymer would be nice but I think an upgrade on our existing B544 is the nearest. I think there might be a Frankia that comes close but considering Burstner and all other continental vans that have same layout or similar.

Open to all ideas and suggestions. (y):)

Cheers Dave

I think you've got it right.
B544 is the obvious choice, Frankia or perhaps Burstner Elegance (690?)
Others that spring to mind are Euramobil (636?) or perhaps a Rapido ?
I suspect that latter models will likely be over 3500kg.

Dave did you look in ours at Benicarlo? The B564. Only thing it falls down on is the second couch - we have L shaped lounge but it's fine. Ginny can stretch out if she wants to! - And the bathroom is huge! Hope you're both well. xx

Our Rapido 925 is 5.95m, 3.5t, Aclass with drop-down bed, super toilet with separate spacious shower but has a full dinette and side bench rather than 2 benches. We love it (although it is 14y old now) and have only ever seen one other like it. When we wander round shows/dealers, we come away happy with what was our first-ever purchase - Gordon

Hi Geraldine and Cliff, yes I can remember your layout from Benicarlo and it's a good layout. Would like to try to track down the second couch though; currently have the dinette that's fine, but prefer the L Shaped opposing the long couch. We're both cracking on pretty good thanks, as hope you both are. As we get older a slightly bigger bathroom would be nice! Hope we catch up somewhere soon! xx

This looks kinda nice, only a year younger than what we have but the layout and specs seem very good. Only just down the road from home...but we're currently miles away!

I know what you mean about being happy with first purchase! Whenever we have a look about we then always seem to come back to what we have as nothing else is ever quite right. Either the layout doesn't tick the boxes or the condition is not as good as they can often look from the pics...and a dealers idea of 'condition' is often far removed from our own!

Also Pilot do 3 I think? 600 - 6.0m - a G650 and a G690 ?
Laika did the 680 - which is a good layout and a garage
Burstner did one for a few years - one on e-bay

We looked long and hard to find this sort of layout and in the end went for the Frankia as it has an extending drop down bed. Obviously immediately afterwards there seemed to be many more models that had drop down longitudinal beds over a front lounge with end bathrooms, Chausson 620, Burstner, Dethleffs 6966 and one that we thought was very clever Wingamm. Almost forgot the Pilote G600L bits felt a bit cramped but we really liked the van and seemed like good value only 5.99m long

But the Frankia is great :D and has decent storage (y) but it is high ours is 3.01m , the new ones I65SD are only 2.89 :) but the height and some weight has been saved by cutting down :cautious: the under floor storage space.

Sorry but I have decided to keep our motorhome (for now anyway). A few pics though to give you an idea of our layout, hope you find what you're looking for (y)

What I like about our Chausson is that the drop down bed is open at both sides, so not at all claustaphobic and no clambering over the current boyfriend to get out:LOL:

Reading through it seems to be the two couches are the hard thing to find.

It does seem so...although the newer B544 (about 2006 onwards) with couches does have a bigger bathroom and separate shower. You also get a good view from the front and two large side windows which we would also like to continue having.

Went out to look at a Dethleffs Globus today locally which was a lovely looking van with a u shaped rear end layout. Very nice but just a bit to small. Then further along the line up was a Burstner Aviano i645 which ticked all the boxes except a bit more expensive than I was hoping for . But now back and having a look at the range generally it seems a good price. LHD probably having an effect but thats what we have at the moment which thoroughly suits me.

Don't know much about Burstners but have to say was quite impressed.
