I am trying to buy an oldish Hymer, and last night found one on eBay that had 15 hours to go and NO bids, it was an open bid set at £78. yes only 78. I bid £150 fully expecting to be out bid. but won it.
the Item is 272332935857 if you want to look. the seller is "redmfr" with a feed back of 49.
Got up this morning to find I had won it and also got an email saying that he wanted another £2100 for the van, I emailed him back asking what the £2100 was for as I won the van in the auction for £102 plus P&P. and am still waiting for a reply.
He did send me more pics when I asked.
the Van is 1993 Hymer B544 reg is K317 JHE. do you think this is a scam or what?

Looks a bit strange! Why didn't he put a decent starting price or a reserve on it, if he wanted more than £78 for it?

When I found the van I had a feeling it was too good to be true, a van that is worth about £7000 and no one is interested, but it wasnt in the motorhome section so not many people would see it. as I havnt parted with much money and eBay say I will get it back I havnt lost much, but if its a genuine sale I have got a very nice van for pea nuts.

..even more fishy if you search the description on completed listings and find it's been listed 4 times before at silly money by different sellers! Definitely a scam!!

Anything that looks to good to be true, usually is.

If you go onto 'Advanced' search on Ebay and type in the title of the listing, tick 'completed listings', you'll find the other times that it's been 'sold' before.

If you are happy at his price,go for it, it does say email him before bidding. So he is within his rights if you didn't but otherwise it looks straight enough.

Another 'tell' that it's a scam is that the previous sellers mostly are dormant ebay accounts so probably have been hacked without them knowing.

...also - if you pay extra money to the seller outside of the ebay listing (probably by Western Union as it's untraceable), you wouldn't get your money back from ebay!

Its pretty certain a scam. A common ploy on Gumtree is to use an email address for you to contact them. This means they will have your email address and will get fraudulent messages from Ebay and PayPal etc to convince you to part with your money.
Be Aware.

If you search on the vehicle registration I think you will find the van is owned by:

Hire A Hymer
POTTERSPURY, United Kingdom

Its at the bottom of their hire fleet list.

Its been sold on
eBay three times since May.

Report it to eBay and forget about it.

Ebay is full of such scams. My father found a "Bargain" lens for his Camera (we're talking used car money for a Canon 300mm) and asked me if I thought it was a scam. I found same lens multiple times all over Ebay.

Sometimes it will be a "Phishing" scam but other times it can be a lot more sinister, involving you turning up to a dark car park with an envelope containing a few thousand quid.

The reason they don't set a reserve price is because of Ebay commissions. Better to pay a few quid on a £78 sale (and collect the rest in cash) than pay commission on a few thousand.

Scam.

We were interested in this vehicle when it was up for sale in July 2015 and spoke with owner, since then the images have been repeatedly used....it sold for £8,500 or thereabouts via ebay auction.

the supposed seller has also stolen Ebay accounts by sending spam emails surgesting their Ebay account needs updating and then using the account to run scams like this. I have done an IP address check and found quite a few complaints against him. If you see the van advertised again send them an email via Ebay with one word on it "SCAM"
