Anyone had experience shipping with Seabridge (1 Viewer)

In January we will be shipping our vehicle to Baltimore with Seabridge. They seem to know what they are doing and specialise in Moho shipping.

We will be there for around 8 months before shipping back.

If anyone has any experience of using them then it would be great to hear any information that might be of use.

Don't know the ins and outs of this but off the top of my head , wouldn't it be better just to rent one while you are there?

Many Germans ship with Seabridge but have never used them myself. The cost of long term hire is much more expensive than shipping.

If you look on there website you would be amazed at just how cheap it is compared with long term hire.

Can only suggest you search for reviews online and make sure you take out sufficient insurance.
I only have experience of Pickfords ( worst removal firm ever) packing and losing my furniture etc.. which eventually arrived in Cyprus where it was impounded by customs as Pickford's shipping agent failed to send any paperwork. 10 days later I received my damaged furniture and most of the boxes!
I knew several ex pats who shipped out their vehicles and containerised seemed to be safest. their experience seemed to be if shipped on deck anything on outside of vehicle ( spare wheel, wheel cover, roof rack) disappeared. Only met 2 people who had items inside the vehicle taken.
Adequate shipping insurance should cover you but check to make sure.

P.S my furniture etc.. Was shipped again from Cyprus to France with no problems.

Not used them yet but spoken to them and had quotes several times very professional and very competitive.
Talked to a couple last year who had travelled to even more countries than us but done it all in a motorhome no motorbike. They also write articles for several magazines unfortunately can't remember their names.
Anyway they used Seabridge to transport their van all over the world and had nothing but praise for them.

Shipping is a fraction of the cost of renting especially if you are going for several months. We hired in Canada a couple of years ago. Was very expensive and uncomfortable. We gave it back 2 days early.

I have talked to Seabridge plenty, ?I have insurance covered and they seem to be very professional. Was just hoping someone who had used them could also give me some assistance.

A bit late to be asking questions about the company, isn't it?

From what I've read security can be an issue so don't leave anything valuable inside the vehicle. I think the keys to the vehicle are carried on the ship.

A number of posters have said it's good value but no mention of price.

We had neighbours who toured the States for several months and they ended up buying a fith wheeler and a truck to tow it.
After their trip they put it into storage in Florida and went back the following year for another tour.
After two long tours they sold the lot and reckoned that it worked out to be quite economical.

We owned the Winnebago (Avtar) for 5 years, (sold last year) based in Texas. I estimate it cost well under $2000 dollars a year in depreciation, for up to 6 months use. We used to go over for the maximum period allowed (6 Months) and tour. You need a 10year Visa to do it and you re apply at about 5 months for an extension and keep fingers crossed!. The old trick of going into Canada or Mexico, and then "resetting" the clock no longer works post 9-11. A couple we met up with in 2012, had a hard fight to get back into the USA from Canada, having been to Alaska!. they transited Canada, and where told at the US border control that they where overstayed, and where greatly delayed and lucky to be allowed back at all!. Even Canadian "Snow-birds" where having a hard time on US border.

You pay by the cubic centimetre so for my vehicle which is 9m long, 2.3m wide and 3.3m high you are looking at just short of 4000 euros. To rent a vehicle is a small fortune and you just don't get the home comfort of your own vehicle.
On top of the above I will pay marine insurance of 0.9% of the value of the vehicle plus Seabridge will provide motor insurance for the period we are there.

A bit late to be asking questions about the company, isn't it?

Booking is 3 months in advance - so haven't booked it yet although I will as they seem to be the best. I was hoping for some feedback on the experience but to be honest they have recently answered all the questions I had.

The only key they will have will be to the ignition. I am adding extra locks to all the lockers and also we have two solid sliding doors giving access to the bathroom and then the bedroom area which we will add additional locks. They will not have access to any of those keys.
I have them at drop off and customs can take a look before locking up again and then the same at the other end. Seabridge say there must be nothing 'showing' in the vehicle i.e. it must look empty - everything away ion drawers and lockers. The garage, however, can have all your kit in it.
Obviously, we won't ship cameras or other electronics with the vehicle.
Only other hassle is that our fixed gas tanks must be empty for shipping, fuel can be one quarter full.
