oil change. (1 Viewer)

Just had a service done by our local mechanic on our fiat bessacar 2.8jtd & just noticed that the service sheet says 6.5 Litres 5w30 semi synthetic oil.I believe 10w 40 semi is the correct grade to use on this engine so was wondering if i should have it changed again or will it be ok to leave until the next service.?If not can i just drain the oil & refill with correct grade without having to take off the oil filter?.

I would speak to the garage first and get them to show you where they think they have used the correct oil. There is another thread around at the moment on a similar subject and from my reading of it they have used the wrong oil and should replace it.

Of course how you would know if they have changed it is a different matter!

Speak to your mechanic and ask him politely to change the oil for 10W40 semi synth which is what should be in it. The 5W30 probably won't cause any harm but oil pressure when hot will probably be lower and a higher chance of oil leaks.

Many small independents have a bulk tank and if you don't specify, or better still supply, the correct oil you get whatever is in the bulk tank.
