There is a free parking with a grey/black water dump at nearby Gentbrugge on Driebeek Straat but its noisy as its just below the autoroute. You can get a tram into Gent from there.

Also o/nite parking possible just to the west of the city overlooking the water at the Watersportsbaan sports complex near the Eddy Merckx building although not used this one personally...

Given the number of Belgians I saw in France recently (outnumbering the locals on the road in one area) the country must be empty so finding space shouldn't be a problem. :)

We pulled into this one 30 June intending to stay but were put off by both the noise from the autoroute which is literally overhead and has heavy trucks on it, and also there were some dodgy looking caravans and a MH parked up that looked like been there for a while. Did not feel safe and we left and went to a canal side location quite a way away. However could not visit Gent.

5 years, feel free to ask me about the Carado!!
Will be going there too, looks like I might have to pay the man at the campsite, leaving an empty newsish motorhome with lots of goodies in it next to a main road/motorway is not a good idea IMHO.:(

Any tips on what to do/see in the local area ??:)

We have stayed there expected it to be noisy but had a quiet night .

Thanks to all.
I end up staying in the Bus car park next to the railway station: Kasteellaan 9000 Ghent. €6.60 for 24h, 1 km away from city Center and very quite.
