The internet. Just been skimming through 197 pages of "This week I bought" you lot will buy anything ! but if you didn't have the internet you'd be lost. No emails, no eBay, no Motorhome Fun, what would you do ? I think I might take off for sunnier climes and lie on a desert island for a year and see what it's like.

survived for donkeys years without it...

many have become slaves to it... you see them everywhere, can't enjoy life without 'checking their status' or logging in.. laying by the pool, in cafes , walking down the street.. faces buried in a phone screen... sad really ...

when we go away on trips I rarely use it .. it's great being untethered for a few weeks..

I could easily go back to the 'old ways' .. life was much simpler then..

No internet... no life!

The internet has made retirement 100% more enjoyable for me.

In a normal 24 hours I might...

Keep an eye on Fun, posting now and then.
Keep an eye on the footy forum I use, posting now and then.
Drop into the MCFC site to see what's new and watch highlights.
Say "Hi" to VIP friends on Viber.
Check my emails, replying where necessary.
Check my bank accounts and transfer money to where it is needed.
Answer or make Skype calls to family and friends all over the world.
Read the papers (Guardian, Independent, Mirror and Torygraph Football section).
See what films are available that day and download any I like the look of.
Read a little on my Kindle app. (Currently Pep Confidential... bought with a click of a button and delivered instantly via internet of course).
Check my selected YouTube video subscriptions.
Curse the screaming BBC football commentators again and again via Twitter.
Watch live footy (when it starts again)(With the commentary turned OFF).
Watch Test Match cricket live.
Look up places mentioned online on Google Maps and/or Earth.
Download podcasts to fall to sleep by.
Check spellings and definitions and abreviations on Google...

I could go on and on and on even more, but I have lettuces and pea plants to water, and a new product for removing those black marks on my van walls to check out...

The internet opens up the whole world and delivers it into my motorhome almost every single day... mind expansion... thought provoking... pure fun and entertainment too.

It's great for communicating whilst away on long trips but as others have already said don't be a slave to it. We only use it when necessary of course MHF is!(y)

let's deal with these life changing points one by one ;)

* before Fun we just had fun.. always did have .. that hasn't changed.

* we used to phone in a call box, 4p and press button A when connected..

* we used to write letters to keep in touch

* banking was done face to face with a friendly branch manager.. we used cash and cheques with a cheque guarantee card

* before Skype.. pen pals.

* newspapers were bought and read on the bus going to work, then later I did the crossword in the loo, then used as toilet paper.

* movies were a night out , I went with a girl and we had 'fun' in the back row

*paperback books were borrowed or bought and passed on

*Youtube.. mmm nuff said .. can live without the muppets

*sport can watched on TV or go to the game.

*Before Google maps.. a World Atlas

*Podcasts.. we have BBC Radio 4 and plenty of other radio stations

*I still use an Oxford dictionary and a sore-arse

so you see Mr JJ .. life before the www was just as interesting, if not more so, and less stressful..

I'm off to check my Twitter account.. the world may have ended and I wasn't informed.. :(o_O:eek:

I TOTALLY disagree.

Frankly I find the arguements in your post quite ridiculous... I can only guess it is a humourous post and it has gone over my head!

PS. Should you feel the need to respond Mr Jim, don't use the reply button, please just send me a letter...

Hi.
I got a Sat Nav,cos' first wife thinks North,is not allways the top of the page in a Collins European Atlas (1992 'ish?) ..... Once, she dared to speak before being spoken to and said i was not going south.down through France. When i said we were, because it was 15.00 hrs and the sun was shining through the window on my side.RHD... she said i was making it up and CLOUTED ME....Doh.

I was just contacted by great friends who told me they were going to be parked in a large carpark very near a Marks and Sparks shop in a few days time and did I want them to get me any new clothes while they were there. Any clothes suitable for my height and (ample) girth are impossible to buy in Portugal at sensible prices.

This contact was made via the internet on my smartphone (Phablet)

I went to the M&S website and ordered 3 pairs of trousers, 6 pairs of boxer shorts and four tee shirts to be collected at the relevant store.

The order was made online on my smartphone (Phablet)

To pay for the items I had to transfer some savings money.

The transfer was done online, you know by now how...

The payment was made... online... you got it, phablet.

My friends will collect the items at the store... as stated above... arranged online...

M&S have written to me confirming all the details and giving me a reference number etc. No envelope, no stamp, no waiting for the postman. All done online... phablet again.

I have forwarded this email to my friends, online, of course, by phablet.

Now for goodness sake don't let me hear anyone say life was just as easy/fun/ stress free BEFORE the internet came along...

I will just burst out laughing and walk away! ;)
