I use Astra 3 as the bulk of my use is in Europe.
me too , as it goes there is no cheaper option from any other supplier. i spent about half an hour on the phone to them this afternoon to get their reasons for the increase ( brexit of course) . when i head to spain in september i am going to drop down to the 4M 3 option instead of the 10M 5 , slightly less data and only 4 mb download speed but how much slower can it be?? when we are away in spain and portugal most of our internet use is via a mifi and local data sim so i wont miss it down there and i can switch back at any time if it doesnt suit. i have the freezone too which i use to download programs and i am going to make sure i take every bit of the 50gb available!!

I think I will downgrade, I rarely use more than 5-6Gb per month and for only 6 months of the year in 2 lumps so they get a ton of money for the 6 months I don't use it because its cheaper than paying reconnection charges.

Satellite internet access through a dish on the roof like Oyster for example. You then have to agree access through an ISP, like you would at home with your broadband for example, but these are specialist ISP's that rent traffic on satellites and sell it to users like myself.

And what is the benifit over wifi thingys or phone that usually are discussed on here, it certainly seems a lot dearer.

All sorts of reasons, although I have a high gain WiFi antenna with a Ubiquti Bullet on the roof linked to a router inside and can connect to all sorts of WiFi options sometimes there just is not any available, or its slow, (keeps stopping my Radio 4) or they want Eurine 20 a week or whatever, so having Sat internet gives me the option to connect. As to price free site WiFi bandwidth tends to be slaughtered and paying for it over a month on site can cost more than my Sat internet fee, but now its becoming contentious.

Just starting
We used them for our broadband in France for about 3 years. The speed was pretty awful so I cancelled it last year and now rely on our 3 mobile Huawei unit, whether we're in the MoHo, car or our house in France.
The main thing that annoyed me was I signed up just before they revamped all their packages so I was paying a lot more for an inferior package but I couldn't upgrade without buying new equipment (or so they kept telling me). Although I've not been a customer for nearly a year I still received their email today about the new prices.

Since july 2009 And Still Going Strong
We've used it since last August and generally very happy with the speed, slows up during the evening and around 8-9am. We use the Ku astra3 and when in Scotland we were on the edge of the footprint and we are now in central Portugal so again on the edge. Makes it harder to set the dish up as it has to be spot on to get a good signal.
Got the email and thought it was a joke at first, if only, ours will be £8 increase. Need to look into it a bit more and decide the best course to take. From what others have just posted there isn't much choice. We do normally run over the 10g package we're on so can't down a package.
If anyone finds another provider at a good price do let us know.
We're on a monthly package so not a problem switching. Surprised someone got through on the phone as generally their customer service is poor. Still waiting on answers to the multiple messages I left them last September. Gave up in the end and found what I needed on line. Only stayed with them as the set up worked for us.

We've a very poor mobil signal and no wifi around us to latch onto. So dish is the only way for us.

Shawn.

My BeyonDSL fee finally went up last month to £44.95 which includes the overnight and a wacking £24 for a reset which we needed this month. I had no notification from them at all. And I have never had any speed at all, usually less than 1meg when I am paying for 10. I have been arguing with them for three months and they have basically said:
If you don't like it then clear off, we won't hold you to your contract!!
I have been looking at Broadband Everywhere which I think is who @Jim is with and he seems to be happy. As I have never had fast speed their Go3 package which is £35 for 3meg download unlimited data and £5 for overnight looks interesting. But they do offer a reset for £15 so I wonder what unlimited actually means.
I have to use it all the time as we live in rural France so have a dish on the roof at home and on the MoHo and just move the modem back and forth.
Anybody have any comments about Broadband Everywhere or has anybody found anything better.
Thanks for any comments.

I use Broadband everywhere and the speed is not good. I was on the 6meg unlimited download and usually only got just over 1meg at best. The more data you use the slower the link gets which makes the unlimited data claims a bit of a joke. The reset charge deletes your usage that month so you go back to the higher speed. I moved to their 10meg 10gig download package and speed has improved to around 3-4meg. Obviously I'm limited on data but I can buy more data at (I think) £5 per gig. So far I've not needed to buy any. I do work from the motorhome occasionally and use between 0.5 and 1gig days per day so even if I have to end up buying more data it still means I'll only pay around £5 per day which for the benefit of working away from the office is ok by me.

Thanks Allan,
I am on BeyondSL 10-10 package and have never ever even got 1meg download speed and they are not interested, just keep saying it is congestion even when their meter says there is none at 4am. Overnight is the only time I can get enough Bandwidth to do anything reasonable.
The package you are on is more expensive than mine but their Go3 would be a bit cheaper. It all depends whether I would get less than 1meg.
Looks like I could be jumping from the Frying Pan to the Fire!
Very confused.
