were is the best and safest place to stay over night ( aires or site not wild) close to tunnell france side

Gravelines about 25 minutes to the North is always popular.

We've also used Wissant a similar distance along the coast in the other direction and Watten which is about 30 minutes East inland.

For us it depends which direction we're going or coming from as to which one we would use.

Gravelines for us. On the edge of town by the river. It's always been quiet and peaceful.

We stayed in Calais one time and it wasn't a nice experience. Would not stay there again.

As said it depends on which way you are travelling to/from. We tend to stay away from Calais itself and have used Baie du Somme services (on the toll road between Calais and Rouen) about 60 mins from Calais.

Another gravelines fan, we even stop there first night if we are going south, usually book a four o clock train, hoping to get an earlier one if all goes well on m1 m25, then get to gravelines late tea timeish, go into town have a bite to eat then in the pmu bar for a drink listening to the locals , bed at tennish, up and raring to go next morning

We've always used Arques aire --3.5 euros services extra ,no electric outside a c/site by a large reservoir, 30 miles south east of Calais near St Omer

Stayed there loads over the last year and its always been fine.
You can just nip over the road in the morning for your breakfast croissants.

...... and in the evening for a not-at-all bad meal at Flunch - maybe not Michelin 5* but pretty good food at pretty good prices.
If you're coming off the train and just want somewhere to safely park up for the night, with other MHs, it's ideal.

Stayed at Cite Europe last Thursday, no problems whatsoever, also picked up some cheap diesel from the filling station

Have used Citie Europe but not really keen, although the meals at Flunch are good. Going east or north we use Gravelines - it's just been doubled in size (on the grass between gravel area and main road). South we use Wissant, though it's very popular and gets full by 6-ish. If you're going south on the autoroute Baie de Somme looks okay but never used it.

WE went to Dieppe this time, arriving 10.30pm, and motored to Auffay, about 17 miles south, where we found the aire in the public car park at the rail station. No one else there, and no charge since we didn't need any services. Workes well.

We are on Gravelines aire for a couple of nights.. €7 per night.. ticket machine is card only

the new grass pitches are excellent , well marked out and plenty of space to sit out with a table and chairs .. either at the side or at the front of your van..


Gravelines is a nice town, about a 10 min walk.. and there is a Lidl and Super U not far from the aire

There is no facilities on the air..( water or dumping ) ... they are not far away .. near the Stadium .. about a 3 min drive.. water is €2 .. 100 its.. credit/debit card required

On the road early morning.
Fuel at the new Carrefour fuel station.

After all, it's not like I want to sit out enjoy the scenery, it's just somewhere to sleep. Used it lots of times and never had a problem.

We also use a lovely little Aire at Marcoing about and hour or so south towards Reims.
Free electric when the street lights come on.

Another vote for cite Europe. We always like to shop both going into france, as we then stock up with the things we like and then again on way home to stock up again before heading into UK. Now the new petrol station has a Bourne services great for topping up/emptying.
