New Duo Battery Solar Charger Arrives... (1 Viewer)

When I bought my 1987 Hymer 660S, it came with two solar panels and a charge controller which charged both leisure batteries and the engine battery. As far as I can tell this system was fitted in 1988.

Disgracefully, after only 28 years, the charge controller broke!

As a temporary measure, I nicked the Steca controller I had on my trusty old self build and fitted it to the Hymer. This only charged the leisure batteries.

Eventually (last week) I finally got around to choosing (and ordering) a new charge controller which will charge the leisure and engine batteries.

Curtis at Sunstore dealt with my emails promptly and with friendliness.

After seven days, which included a weekend and France's National Holiday day, the controller arrived here in the South of France.

Well done and thanks to Curtis at Sunstore.

Now I have to sit down and think about fitting it...

Bloody typical...

After having a good, long "sit down and think" (45 mins) and with a huge surge of energy... I removed the Steca controller (observing the correct disconnection procedure), and connected the new Duo Battery controller (observing the correct connection procedure).

It took 5 mins 23 secs.

Then pressing the relevant buttons I set the controller to...

1. Sealed battery.

2. 90% leisure battery charging, 10% engine battery. (Preset)

3. 25Hz. (Preset)

Now... two lights flash green.

Check the meaning of this in the "manual".

All batteries are fully charged.

Of course they are you Silly Billy!

I am hooked up to Frankie's electricity.

Need another sit down now...

Got the same reg in my van. Also got a remote meter which gives a lot more info on the charging regime....battery voltages, amps in, etc

I looked at the remote meter but, after using solar power for over twenty-five years, I am no longer that interested in charging regimes and amps etc. The Hymer panel shows the voltage in either battery and the amps coming in or going out... this is more than enough for me!
