We're looking to get a pre-payment card to use on our forthcoming trip to france and have been warned that some don't work at the toll booths in France. Can anyone advise which are Ok for this purpose and which is recommended generally. We've been looking at Revolut as a possible option.

Thanks

Another option is to get a Tag which will save the hassle of paying at the toll gates.

Yes, It looks like a good option but I think there's a size limit - or am I wrong?

easyjet pre paid euro card works well at any tolls that went through in France
Since invested in Sanef Tag - even better!

Caxton usually fails.

But our Halifax card works a treat with good costs.

Not recommended. The crooks plant card readers on the toll booth machines.

They might get the card details, but they don't get the PIN. Since pin isn't used on tolls booths.

That's why you wouldn't want your card cloned
Imagine how much money a bunch of foreign lorry drivers could run up on your card before you spotted

We use a tag now but used a Halifax card before we had it.

I didn't think any pre paid cards worked reliably.

Have you any proof of that we have always used them without problem and there are cameras everywhere so how would a thief get there to do it without being seen?

Revolut card worked for us on all tolls in France, only trouble we had with it was at some Petrol stations.

I think they would have to get into the machine to do anything as it not the type of design that would take a dummy front and as others have so no PIN divulged.

We have been using the credit card for years and no problems (yet).

We always used our post office credit card before we got a tag, they are so easy and you don't even stop if you use the right hand Lorry lanes.

Martin, does this mean that you are using Tolls now?(y)
Ha Ha I knew that would come back and bite me on the bum, NO not a lot. When we were caravanning we used them a lot more as we were usually class 2 I think and we were still at work so had time constraints, since getting the Flair we are always class 3 and that is a step too far for a true Yorkshire lad.

they can have my details as without the pin they are useless

If they were useless they would not go to the bother of cloning cards or am I mising something?

Last year in Spain the police were publicly warning people not to use credit cards for payment of motorway tolls. Just because you have not had a problem yet does not mean that there is no risk. It is apparently a very quick operation to plant the card scanner which have wireless links for remote reading. The choice is obviously yours.

@Flamenca I hear what you are saying and thanks however I feel that the French toll systems are much busier and therefore it would be very difficult for someone to fit a scanner however my experience on the few Spanish tolls I have used is that they are very quiet and may be easier for scammers to fit one so I will in future be much more vigilant.
