Always works out cheapest for me, and unfortunately can also vouch for claim care being excellent after someone ran into the back of me 4 years ago.

I took out insurance and breakdown with them while overseas. I haven't much to say other than I asked them to put in an email that the insurance was valid because I was in Portugal when I took it out, and my journey did not start in the uk AT THE TIME the insurance started. They did send me the email the same day.

Wouldn't insure me they will only insure new vans brought from British dealers, I would have thought that goes against EU free trade.

No problem insuring my used Burstner at a very competitive price with them.

Was this because it was a private import?
I have seen this cropping up in one or two small print departments
Nothing in the main bodies or on web sites but the statement that "Private Imports can not be insured" is definitely cropping up more and more
perhaps those with private imports should ask the question direct with all Insurers, better to be told NO NOW rather than have it pointed out at the time of a claim
As for the original question
Yes Caravan Guard are a good insurer with fast proven pay outs, and repair authorisations from personal experience
Once you get over the confusion of dealing with RSA (Royal Sun Alliance) AKA Caravan Guard

were the cheapest for me this year, but only because I didnt take europian cover, but at least its optional inlike some insureres who lump it on regardless of whether you want/need it or not.

I've always found them the cheapest insurer for both caravans and motor home, £60 cheaper than Safeguard on my current motor home (y)

Been with Caravan Guard several years now having swapped over from Safeguard and find them to be very competitive price wise. Not had to put them to the test yet with any sort of claim......and would like to keep it that way too!

This years annual premium for our bus was £395 including full European & UK Breakdown, Tax & Motor Legal Expenses.

I was going to go comfort advantage however we've just decided prob won't go abroad this next August. So caravan guard will be £50 Cheaper. However they only provide windscreen cover upto £2k. Since ours is an A class. This is too tight for my liking.
So looking like back to Comfort again see if can get price down.
Got 2 weeks till pick MH up so time to sort.

I would venture to suggest that this is what is called a "Restrictive Trades Practice" which applies to both goods and services. The Office of Fair Trading should be informed where an insurer refuses to insure a European import that has been passed as fit for use in the UK having satisfied DVLA. I am sure that this must be breach of EU laws as well. This might also be a way of putting pressure on UK insurance companies to insure personal imports on a fully comprehensive basis between the dealers premises in Europe and the point of entry into the UK even if on a VIN number rather than registration number basis.

Just paid our insurance with caravan guard for this year, when renewal came it was £50 cheaper than last year. Ours is an American RV 27ft 4" long, have taken off European cover & recovery as we are not going abroad in the next 12 months. Had cause to claim for an awning 5 years ago and once they realised it was part of the RV and factory fitted they paid up quickly without a problem. This years premium is now £200 cheaper than last years.

That quote does sound a tad expensive, we pay £350 with two drivers that`s 8000 miles a year.

I tried to get get a quote from Caravan Guard for our new to us Vantage Van Conversion which we pick up on Tuesday - on line it came up with a decline message which looked like it had a server error. Called them and they couldnt get past it either. Ended up getting quotes from Camping & Caravan Club £326 incl european breakdown, Safeguard who quoted £473 until I mentioned the C&CC quote when she came back with £313. Also had a conversation with AIB who asked what I had been quoted then came back with the same as Safeguard. I am confused.com but will probably go with Safeguard as AIB use Equity Red Star and I had an experience with them years ago (car related).

That's a good deal robnchris.

I'm looking to renew on our new to us 2012 lhd Carthago Chic c-line 5i. Caravanguard won't insure unless we fit Thatcham Cat 1. Then it would cost :- per 5k mileage £634 or 7k mileage £668.
Scenic(?) found on Internet wanted £793! Gulp!!
Zenith quoted £575 with only one month euro travel!

The quotes were for 2 drivers me n him lol protected no claims, £300 excess and we've both got 9 yrs no claims, over 60 & retired. Clean DL, no convictions etc.
I think I've read somewhere that some companies won't insure van over £55k without an alarm.
Am I up agin it? as we have no alarm (but plenty of visual deterants)

Been with Them last three years and just had renewal through for this year. £886, that's for our 31ft Forest river. This gives us 9 month continuous cover in Europe which works well for us. Would love the 365 days cover that saga offer but I'm not old enough yet lol.
We struggle to find others to insure us. Touch wood never had to claime but any contact I've made with them has been friendly on the phone and quick response by email.
Will probably renew with them again. From memory it was around half the price when we didn't need the European extra bit.

I've just renewed with caravan guard and found out that breakdown cover is standard on their policies. This only covers the motorhome but also includes towing you out of mud. I also managed to get a discount on their renewal price.

When I have had a need to call them, either to renew or alter details it is always refreshing & reassuring to talk to someone with a Yorkshire accent. I have found them to be friendly, courteous and efficient. Th Camping Club & Caravanning Club both refused to offer insurance - probably due to the dodgy part of Leeds we live in.
