Junk email increase since Site problem (1 Viewer)

Anyone else had an increase in spam since the site had it's problem?
They are getting through 2 lots of spam filter security, usually have a few a week but have had 20-30 today alone.

We have not had a data breach so your email on record here is safe. I note you use hotmail, I read in the last two weeks or so that 270million email addresses were being sold on the open market, a major number of those were hotmail. That is just one instance of literally thousands of breaches. None yet from us though :fingerscrossed-touchingwood:

I've got hotmail & gmail and noticed this past week that hotmail' spam has gone through the roof.
I don't think it's from one particular site, I think it's global.

Don't use Hotmail is the answer. I once did some business with a company which used Hotmail and I told them it didn't do their image any good.

Gmail works for me, I used to be with BT but got a lot of spam, since switching to Gmail spam is a thing of the past.

I do have gmail and also yahoo account, son often has problems on yahoo so rarely use that address, find gmail a pain to use. this has only happened in the last few days with spam getting onto my main email no going to my spam folder, interestingly if i try to open the emails they come up as unsafe! now there is a surprise.

That means that your email has been made public and probably copied and added to spammers databases

The attack this morning was the same as arrows being fired at the castle door. It was preventing access to the server (castle) but they didn't get in to do any internal damage.
I tracked down their target and it was disabled.

I have received 2 spam emails from an acquaintance who's email account has been hacked but the email address doesn't show up when looking on the haveibeenpwned website so can only conclude it is not 100% accurate.

Most email providers these days let you set up 'aliases'. They are additional separate addresses that point to your original account. For example my email might be jim@gmail.com. But when I join say a photography forum, rather than use my email I make an alias specifically for that site. Jimsphotoforum2234@gmail.com. All mail sent to this address is recieved in my original inbox.

Should I start getting spammed at that address I know the breach has to be the photo forum and I can just delete that address.

I have received 2 spam emails from an acquaintance who's email account has been hacked but the email address doesn't show up when looking on the haveibeenpwned website so can only conclude it is not 100% accurate.

With breaches happening every hour of every day, and some emails compromised on the day they are made, no site will be 100%accurate

If you use the same searchforsites email/password combination as you do with any other services, such as Amazon/eBay/Bank etc. Then you really should have dumped that email by now.

do use searchforsites, but not aware of having ever provided an email address, but may well be where it has come from.
Good news only 1 spam got past filter this morning, the day is but young though.

The dark side was recently hacked. If you used the same email address to register there then that is where it will have come from.

did a search and it was search for sites which came up, had forgotten about it. Seems to have calmed down since clearing history more often.
