You could be on the Charente coast in a day and a half - La Rochelle, La Palmyre, Ile de Re, Ile d'Oleron, Parc Puy du Fou, Parc Futuroscope on the way (or way back). That's where we'd be heading. Likewise you could be into the Dordogne region in the same amount of time. Just needs a long drive on day one.

We are just back from 9 days in Normandy. Swiss Normandy around Clecy was lovely and certainly a part of France I would go to again. We hope the weather improves at the end of July when we'll be back.

The forecast doesn't look bad for the time you arrive. I would stick with Plan A. :)

@DBK it was your lovely blog of the rose granite coast which gave us the ideal to not rush south. (y)

Reading on another thread they mention northern France being busy because of the football and some sites struggling because of floods and soft ground. We generally use Aires unless we stumble across a special site.

I'm now worried about staying in the north. What's Provence like? Could we go there and back in 9 days?
Is the weather better there now? Help!

@Mousy we have just done Denmark deffo do-able in 9 days from the tunnel. It's so clean it sparkles. Would totally recommend. We had hot sunny days, long evenings, sea view large pitch, nice beach. My legs are still tanned.

No need to worry, Brittany and west coast of France not busy at all, campsite I'm on Camping Bois Dinot at Marans half hour north of La Rochelle is not full at all and Aires here lots of space, loads by side of rivers and canals, same for Messac and Vendrennes on way down. Been here 3 weeks, went to have a look at sites at Chataillon Plage and Fouras and they not full or the aires in that area. Football doesn't seem to have made difference and no evidence of flooding in this area and am surrounded by rivers and canals and 30 mins from sea. This is a lovely municipal ASCI site in the woods and so much to do from here. Today the weather has at last changed and 23 degrees and SUNNY! The forecast for here for next 21 days is SUNNY 23 to 27 degrees.

Le Mans is lovely, the old medieval town is stunning and during the summer months there is a spectacular free light show at night. Check out the website:

Incase you didn't know all of the recent strikes/fuel shortages have been because of cheese. The French have just realised that it is the "food of the devil" and are attempting to rid the country of the vile stuff. Wait until next year when it may be safer ;)

Thanks all, still not sure where to go but I've realised my first mistake...been avidly watching and checking a 14 day weather app for the past 2 weeks and freaking out at the low temperatures and cloud cover....just realised I've been viewing the am or morning not clicking on the pm afternoon button

:rofl:Weather has improved dramatically.

Let's hope my ineptitude stays in Wales, could be an interesting trip.

Hi Mousy,
Just returned from a wet /sunny us south of Loire,
Personally I'd go to Brittany
Fougeres, dinan, Campeneac, Carnan and south west of Brittany not sure 9 days is enough though.
