I have never used this function on my tomtom before but I am trying to input these coordinates n49 208065/e o 388684 but each time I do it it tells me is not right but they where taken off the campsite website do you think I am doing it wrong ,or is there a special way of inputting this type of address I am in the lat/long section off the tomtom. Any help gratefully received thanks

The co-ordinates you give are near Chateau Camping le Colombier. Is that the site? You are probably entering the co-ordinates incorrectly. With the longitude ensure that you always enter the zero preceeding the decimal point.

Just another question on this subject ,I have managed to navigate around France using coordinates but it was a bit of trial and error the bit I don't really understand is the north south East west bit of the coordinates they seem to give you the numbers not north or west or east before the numbers so have had to guess and check on a map. On a few occasions I guessed wrong and had to guess again is there any one that can explain it to me in very simple language . Thanks

You have to change the settings in your TomTom from Deg to decimal I think! when O.H comes back in I will ask him.

Unless you are below the equator, all latitude references will be North (which is defined as positive). Longitude is east or west of the Greenwich Meridian (GM). East is defined as positive and west as negative, so 0.388684 is East of the GM and -0.388684 is West of the GM.

First go into Setting- set units-first one gives miles kil; press next time display next again until you get co-ordinates
Degrees
Minutes
Seconds
either select the top one Deg or Minutes
just try that and see if it works .

So basically you have to know what side your destination is of the GM . Think I have got that now , many thanks

Thanks MadgeD , I sort of figured that out it was just the positive /negative/East/west thing I did not understand . But many thanks for trying to help me (y)

Your welcome and I think if you just copy the numbers as they are set including dots TT works it out itself.
