Being as we are both on drugs, how do others manage your prescriptions and collecting them without a fixed GP to deal with.
Also as I inject every day, 4 weeks supply is delivered every 3 weeks in a chilled van. They may be able to supply more each time, but it is something I have only asked the company who delivered about at the moment.
Anyway, any thoughts or experience's shared would be really appreciated.

How do you mean, without a fixed GP? - unless you have a GP you can't even get a repeat scrip! LOL Only one off things from a drop in or out of hours health centre or something.

Would contact pharmacist. Sometimes they know more than doctors and can be really helpful on such matters.

This is why I am asking, we can hardly stay with our surgery in Scotland, the injections may be ok because I don't often go to the specialist anyway.
Giving the 'LOL' because someone is asking a question that is important to them is hardly helpful.............if all you can do is be a sarcastic troll toward me AGAIN, maybe it is YOU Jim needs to remove.

I don't think you have interperated this correctly I don't think any offence was intended, perhaps a little more information would be appropriate as I didn't see this as sarcastic at all.

You could be right, but having been on the receiving end of this lady before I think that is why and makes it understandable why I would take it that way.
I will be the first to apologise if I have misunderstood.
I am looking for helpful info, other peoples experience with this important aspect of full-timing.

I suspect that is where the misunderstanding has occurred. No mention in your original post of you full-timing. Most of us who don't full-time just keep our existing GP and order more if we are going to be away when they run out.

Just trying to help, as it is still unclear to me what the situation is. Are you full-timing now or planning to full time?

Chemist good starting point.
I order 2 X months worth and carry copy of printed out repeat prescription plus take photo of it with my phone. My wife also carries a weeks worth of my meds, none of which can be missed.

Are you planning on full timing in the UK or abroad? If in the UK then you can just register as a temporary patient wherever you happen to need more medication.

However if going abroad it will be more difficult. We are going away for about 4 months but our GP will only give us 3 months worth of medication and we didn't have enough time to build up extra supplies. We're hoping we'll be able to buy anything we run out of while we're away.

However, with injections I would think it would be more difficult. I think your first port of call should be your current GP.

Also worth thinking about how reliable your storage will be if it requires refrigeration its easy to let the fridge go out/forget to change over etc or get too cold and freeze I think you can get a device to show if its been too warm might be best to get repeat prescription for a month at a time so don't have to store so long.

My surgery would only give my wife 3 months, they said NHS rules, however they would give a private scrip in addition which meant she had to pay for the 4th month.

We spoke to our GPS and were able to get up to six months worth in one go,we only needed five for our last one so it worked out fine.
If you don't ask? You don't get! So it's worth a try we were pleasantly surprised,I suppose it depends on what melds you need.

Have done a quick look on internet and found the www.nhs.uk site which mentions the following -

Repeat dispensing
If you're regularly prescribed medicines, your pharmacist can offer repeat dispensing services, which means fewer trips to the GP just to get another prescription.

You can get a prescription from your GP for up to a year, then you can get your medicine supplied at regular intervals without having to go to your GP every time.

The pharmacist will normally chat to you every time you pick up your medicines to check how you are getting on with them and whether you are experiencing any undue problems or side effects. If so, the pharmacist can talk to your GP about this. Ask your GP about this service."

Perhaps if you can get the year prescription this might help your problem, if you are able to use it at different pharmacists round the UK? :)

Also - wonder how the travellers manage when they are on the move around the country?

Would a 12v portable caravan refrigerator be a good thing for the Medes? This could be run off the car/van or the mains. I have to get tabelets for my 6-9 months trip over seas so this discussion helps. At the moment I understand I will have to buy three to six months tabelets at about £10 a month. As I get free tablets in the uk I really do not understand why I need to pay as we are members of the EU. Do EU members pay if they are sick in the uk. I don't know.

If you have time before your trip just order them a week or so early every time to build up a supply. That's what we'll be doing after this trip.

EU members get whatever the residents of that country are entitled to - and yes in most countries they either have to pay the full price or there is a 'co-pay' system where they pay part of their Gov't pays the rest.

Therefore if 'they' come here they get the same as we do in similar circumstances. I'm medically exempt (now old age exempt LOL) but if I'm in France for long enough* that I run out and French diabetics have to pay for their insulin, then I would too.

* So in my case that's 3 months as that's all I can get, too. Oh - and in theory if you are away from their 'catchment' area for over 3 months, the GP is supposed to remove you from their list as they should not collect the 'per capita' amount from the NHS, for you.

On our 2nd MH now a AutoTrail Savannah which we're absolutely delighted with
We were recently touring in Scotland and it looked likely Ashley needed weekly blood tests and medications. I contacted the nearest GP Practices along our planned route and it was amazing the cooperation we received from many GP's and local hospitals. As it happened fortunately Ashley's health improved and it was not necessary. I'm sure similar arrangements are available for your medical requirements just needs a little bit of organisation/planning.
Hope you get it happily sorted out
Ian

Yes it's all a problem. At the moment I have a doctor in Somerset and I am in Somerset at the moment but my home address is in Manchester. I will probably only visit Manchester once a year the rest of the year I will be traveling round Britten or Europe.

The bigger problem of course is what happens if your previously well controlled illness goes out of kilter but if you wait it might get worse!!!

We can't do that, well not at the surgery we are with at the moment as all pain killers are now 'controlled drugs'.......... diffiucult.:(

I've just realised what the 'you can get a repeat scrip for 12 months' means. You can indeed for some drugs - most of mine are for 6 though.

When I look at a copy of my repeat scrip, it has the total number of repeats I am allowed to order, before I have to have a review. The scrips may only have been reviewed yesterday and have all 6 left but all the tablets only last 28 days, and I can only get 3 scrips for one month's supply of them upfront, as I said previously.

These have to be ordered separately at our surgery cos the poor dears can't cope with anyone going on holiday for that long and I've now given up trying to argue about it cos there's only so much time I'm willing to spend banging my head on a brick wall !

(And then the pharmacist goes on leave in the middle of this and the locum decides it's a mistake cos it's exactly the same as the one the puter shows was done yesterday ......)

Controlled drugs the prescription must be dispensed within 28 days for the first installment it can then continue for a maximum of 6 months. I think the prescription being available for up to a year is the maximum at the GP's discretion not a right!!
