Neither, if something hits the mirror, guard or no guard it's GONE, or badly damaged, had a van hit mine, or I hit theirs in the spring, not really too fast but it wiped out the WHOLE mirror.

They look nice, but now not convinced of the protection.

Have Milenco ones with a few extra foam pads....

No protector can guarantee no damage but there is no doubt these things can and often do prevent the damage from being so severe it becomes a problem .

I needed short arm ones do the choice was limited

Mirror guard is far superior and as said nothing will protect from a serious impact but that is less likely than bumps which are frequent
This which is passenger side for me has had at least five collisions

Another vote for mirrorguard, very sturdy piece of kit, although to be fair as previous poster said if it's hit by a lorry or a van I doubt the mirror would survive anyway and I have bought a replacement wing mirror (electric) from eBay for £125 in the past

You pays your money and takes your choice. The Milenco ones look fine and also have the effect of warning oncoming traffic about your mirrors, but their construction isn't as strong as the Mirrorguards so it would depend on the impact as to whether the mirrors survive. Mirrorguards for me, have proved their worth too.

I bought the Milenco ones, coz I'm a cheapskate and just wanted the black mirror housings to be more visible.

I stuck extra absorbent foam inside them to minimise any impact, but am aware that neither will stop damage if it's a hefty enough whack! That's why I bought the cheap ones.

My Milenco disappeared in a cloud of black dust when hit by a White Van Man in France recently. Along with the rest of the mirror of course. Will not refit on the new replacement mirror, they could give a false sense of security. Just not worth it. My replacement mirror (passenger side) in France was £250 inc tva. I notice in the UK they are £533 inc vat on the Bailey Website. The drivers side on the Bailey Website was over £729 if I remember correctly. Where do they get their prices from?

I put some reflective tape on my mirrors - no mirrorguard of any make available for mine but at least the mirrors can be seen.

I got the Milenco as if it's a high speed full on impact nothing will save your mirror

Mirror guards will only save damage from a light glancing blow or gentle low speed scuff from a wall which I reckon the Milenco's will do fine

Mirror guards - unfortunately functionally tested and assessed serviceable with reflective funster smilies. Covers all - I hope. (y)

Mirror guards for me, earlier today one of my mirrors was hit by a blue van man . Pieces went flying , when I stopped , mirror guard and the glass was perfect . Blue van mans mirror was on the road. Serves the bugger right for not slowing down on the narrow road.
So for me, it's mirror guard .
