Got a chip in windscreen of my old Hymer, new windscreen ordered but been told it could take up to 6 weeks as it needs to be made.
The chip in in line with the steering wheel and 30mm at the widest point. The mot is due next week have I got any chance of it passing. If not I will have to cancel my next break.

Take a chance, it may pass, if not explain situation and ask for free retest, I would.

The limit is 10mm in driver's line of vision (vertical strip 290mm wide centred on centre of steering wheel), so I think you'd have to be very lucky to have it passed, and I would be very suspicious of an MOT tester who passed it.

It is in the line of vision but about 6" from the bottom. When we drive we can just see it. Might just take it and ask the garage to just look.

Worth a try if it's so low down.

Paint bottom of screen black upto and including the chip Not part of the screen then(y)

Opaque edging on a windscreen(usually black, particularly at the lower edge) found on some modern vehicles is not to be regarded as part of the windscreen when assessing the driver's view through the windscreen within 8.3 item1 of the Inspection Manual

Thanks for all your help. Just so annoyed I have to wait so long for a replacement windscreen, but I guess that's what happens when you have an old motorhome
