Brought a 2014 hymer exsis back from Germany, CoC classes the van as a euro 5, DVLA class it as a normal light good vehicle and cost more in Rd tax. I spoke to DVLA this morning and chappy says it's because its a german vehicle not UK vehicle. Is this right, surely a euro 5 classed vehicle is a euro 5 no matter where it was built?. Any funster know different?

If it is over 3,500 kgs Maximum Authorised Mass then it falls into the PHGV (Private Heavy Goods Vehicle) class, if its under 3,500 kgs MAM it falls to be licensed in the PLG class

Interesting mine is Euro 5+, as I put a personal reg on it I phoned the London Emissions lot just in case I ever stray off the M25, they said thats OK your vans Euro 4!

Why would it cost more in road tax they don't record the emissions on the V5 for a Motor Caravan, unless you have not registered it as a Motor Caravan. If that's the case get the registration class changed.

I think the Euro 5 bit is a red herring. What weight is the MH?

I wonder if they are just meaning that it is "Euro IV or better and is therefore OK?

I would have thought Euro 5 is a classification of the engine and nothing to do with it`s weight class.

Here's a link to the tax tables

Vehicles registered as motor caravans will be classed as PLG or PHG and fall into Tax Class 11 or Tax Class 10.

"Euro 5 light goods vehicles Tax Class 36 (weighing no more than 3500kg)
Vehicles registered between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2010 and which are Euro 5 compliant"

I think That answers your question... Seems they bought it in, thought better of it and cancelled it very quickly.
This select class has annual road tax of £140 !!

My Autotrail is 2012 Euro 5 and 4250kg.. PHG £165.. I can live with that..

Yep......

Even the really big, 12 ton plus, american motorhomes are taxed the same.....ALL £165pa....as long as they are over 3500kg and registered as a motorcaravan.
And even better, they have the same MOT as a small car.

I have just received the DVLC import vehicle forms and they list PLG as a Euro 4 and a Euro 5 but not he Euro 6 which is not mentioned. There is a PLG under 3500kg and the rate is £140 However the form is complex and misleading so I do not depend on being right
My new one will be PHGV euro 6 So that doesn't exist on that form.. Do not know how to go about it. I got the forms in case I decide to go to Belgium for the new van or swallow the difference and get RHD from a UK supplier who I am playing off against each other and getting a good ?? price, The falling Euro makes it dearer over there but I had no money when it was at the highest point. So too late now it is on the way down with the Brexit vote coming.

Only if it was produced between certain dates, I thought that but having a 2014 van it was too young , oh saying that mines a 2.1 so you maybe right if the engine is only a 1.5

Yeah, the link above seems to say under 1549cc.
Never knew there was a break off - the "new" tax is always different and I never checked. Guess its also a commercial van at the moment till I finish the conversion
