We decided last night we would head away for the night somewhere not to far and what a lovely night and day we had.
Spent the night at the Galloway Deer centre only us and the deer.

Then a wee walk up at Clatteringshaws for this lovely view.

Stopped for a cuppa at the otter pool Unfortunatley no Otters on show
image.png

Although no Otters this flew along side us a couple of times, couldn't get a pic of it standing.

Lorraine and Toby had wheely good fun here.

Just a wee selfie to prove I was there, above Clatteringshaws

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
All of this is in my back yard & before I retired I regularly drove an ambulance around this area. I've been having nights away & wild motorhome camping since I was 5 years old.I still adore the area.
If you've never visited this area your missing a great wild area, too many folk carry on up the A75 & are totally unaware of the peace, solitude, easy parking & great food that are in the Galloway area.

Beautiful photo's & a really nice thread, well done larger.

I'll pop together a list of things for you to do in the area. Let me know what sort of things interest you & it'll be my pleasure to make your stay interesting.

I didnt realise you could drive at 5 years old in Scotland....whatever next ?

I could certainly drive a tractor from about 7yrs old as could most folk my age that had grown up farming but 5yr olds driving was beyond even me lol lol.:whistle:

Please please stop telling people about how beautiful and unspoiled this part of Scotland is ..

it's Scotland's secret .. do you really want it turned into another Loch Lomond :eek:

Yes its a bit of a double edged sword telling folk about this area, I wouldn't like to see the area being crowded but us motorhome folk can be very discreet when we need to be lol.

Hi Anthea, the cycle bridge is at Kirroughtree forest park http://scotland.forestry.gov.uk/forest-parks/galloway-forest-park/kirroughtree-visitor-centre. Not that close to the Falkirk Wheel although on your way up or down your more than welcome to stop off in Dumfries and I'll give you a tour.

We actually left the house planning on heading down that way, changed our mind though as it started raining at Newton Stewart so turned left off the 75, will be down that way soon though.

Lovely pictures brought back many memories thank you. My dad retired up to Newton Stewart and we have had many happy times up by the deer park and Clatteringshaws loch...unfortunately Dad died in the late nineties but my stepmother still lives up there and we will be heading that way before we go to the Falkirk meet.:)
