I have 215 wide tyres at the moment can I put 225s on the same rim?

10mm difference in width
7mm difference in profile.

As long as the speed and weight rating is the same or greater I wouldnt hesitate.
But it may be worth telling your insurer you changed size or they may use it as a 'get out' to avoid any future claim.

This is MY OPINION and isnt neccessarily correct.

225 might get you higher load index, with snowchains might be closer to fouling bodywork, if you carry spare will it still fit in cradle? Just some things to consider.( but I would if above is ok)

many many years! since I was a kid
engineers like svtech often suggest a change to 225 tyres from 215 to increase the available tyres with increased load index. just one point, dont forget the spare as non matching tyres on an axle can fail the mot

Agreed, but it is a joke as many vehicles with a spare are supplied with a glorified nylon/polyester motorcycle tyre....a so called space saver.
The joke being... its ok to drive on a space saver, albeit temporary, but not accepted for MOT.
So, using one is in contravention of construction and use regs...or something like that...regarding tyres on the same axle.
