We are hoping to go up the railway on the 8th of May, on our way around the North Coast 500

Should we be buying the tickets now, waiting until a few days before to check the weather forecast or leaving it until we arrive?

TIA

I would leave it until the last minute. No point going up if you can't see anything from the top! :)

Others I know won't agree, but we still found it great fun even in a whiteout - and we saw our first snow buntings from the cafe lookout. The shop and cafe will be open.
If you go up on the railway, you're not allowed to walk to the summit unless you're on a guided tour.

If you're up to it, the walk up from the carpark is good but rather strenuous... estimate 1.5 - 3 hours to get to the top. Maybe railway one way, walk the other?
