Saw my first Swallow of the year today.

My sighting was of the feathered variety.

Reminds me of the time we were studying trench warfare of WW1. Some nice examples still visible on Salisbury Plain where we trained many of the commonwealth

One such feature of it is the gloryhole. A dugout at a bend where soldiers could post grenades on an advancing enemy should they be overrun

Try googling gloryhole and see what appears, I never knew half of what came up

Still have the mental scars too. It's my excuse to drink

Heard our first cuckoo last week here in Hinojos, Spain so they are on the way.

We've had swallows here for a few weeks and also Cuckoos, but I heard the first Bee Eater yesterday.

Spotted these yesterday at Hinojos there were around seventy.

And a few of these Woodchat Shrike pretty little bird
