I don't know much about this (not a biker myself) but just heard it mentioned on local radio.

Apparently it's been in testing for a couple of years so some of you may know about it.

REALRIDER®: An essential bit of your biking kit. The motorcycle App that keeps riders safe and connected, with REALsafe® built-in crash detection technology.

Ha Ha,
Had to laugh at Colin G's statement,

Always have this on when out on the bike. Excellent for recording the routes and keeping a history of trips.

And the speed he did,I assume an android phone will do the same as an Apple iphone. With its built in GPS it records your speed as well.An App will not stop an idiot car driver from running into you either.

From what was said on the radio, I think the point is that it will help the emergency services find someone unfortunate enough to have had an accident.

And it needs a signal,I was out yesterday and couldn't get a signal! Have a look at rural coverage of mobile phone companies.

I never said it was useless, what it is is another insurance cost. £30 a year. I had a great ride yesterday but if I had been coming the other way at one point I would have ran into an idiot car driver that had stopped to look at a crashed car in a field,he had stopped with the front of his car in the opposite lane just round a bend.(n)

That should be a thing of the past when the 'roaming' goes.
It would work at the mo if using the 'emergency call' app as that already uses any mast for emergency calls.

Surely in such a case you would have been travelling too fast for the situation in that you reckon you could not have stopped in the distance you could see.

Please look at the google map link, even going slower you are tipped over so can't brake fully.Somehow he had turned into the opposing lane to stop and gawk.

I suppose the value of any insurance (other than compulsory) is an individual choice.

I don't think any app, though, would claim to be able to prevent an accident resulting from a rider's failure to fully anticipate an obstruction round a blind bend :)
