Anyone else have this problem on their alloys? It was new July 2014.

Sorry, don`t know the answer but that is very disappointing on a two year old vehicle.
Is it worth contacting the dealer and asking them to contact the factory / wheel manufacturer and see if they are willing to do something ?
Might be a known issue
Otherwise there are companies that can refurbish them - at a cost !

More than toes wet now!
Not on motorhome but on car.
Hyundai replaced them under warranty so might be worth a call to dealer \ manufacturer.

Your not alone, many cars on the road today are suffering from this problem this type of finish has been failing since 2006 on the Chrysler 300c
It seems the more that fail the more Manufacturers copy this crap system (the Alloy is too highly polished to hold the clear Laquer)
They can be re done circa ÂŁ90 a wheel but they dont last either, far better to paint em

Getting there!
Afraid that's not unusual for diamond cut alloys. I've had several cars with that type of finish and always ended up getting them powder coated. It only needs a stone chip or heavy handed tyre fitter and the lacquer will be chipped.

Not just a Hymer I think all the Burstner ones have peeled to, they've agreed to replace them on mine but have been waiting nearly a year because of the scale of the problem. See your dealer

I've witnessed lacquer peel on pretty much every diamond cut alloy, caused by a stone chip or similar.

This doesn't appear to have been caused by stone chip damage, it looks like it starts around the bolt holes and 'worms' it's way along, lifting as it goes. They are unaffected around the outer parts of the wheels and the spokes. Even though I understand why it may be happening, I find it unacceptable that this should be the finish on wheels. They must be more durable than this.

If not stone chips it's possibly / probably caused by simply tightening the wheel nuts which cracks the lacquer & then moisture / road salt / grit etc seeps under & lifts.

Did you get the same type of wheel as replacement? My concern is that it happens again, unless something has changed with manufacture. How long have you had the replacements and are they doing OK?
Thanks
Tim

Same type of wheels, only had them fitted two weeks, so not proven yet . I guess there will be a warranty on the new wheels.
(did not ask the question) as my original alloy wheels started to corrode after 6 months from new.

Cheers

I thought that the manufacturers would be wise to this now, laquer or clear coat as its known in the industry will not stick to a metal surface with any longevity, i used to refurb alloys ,i would give the owner the option of either a painted finish or a powder coating on the wheels.

We had this problem on our then new Burstner after just a few months. It looks a bit like a fungus growing under the clear lacquer.
Ours were replaced under warranty.
They look identical to the Hymer wheels except for the logo on the centre

It looks like the person who fitted the wheels was heavy handed with the wheel nut gun and scratched the laquer while fitting the nuts.
Whatever the cause, it's disappointing on new wheels, hope you get it sorted soon

It's a very old problem. Alloy parts on '60s & '70s Japanese motorcycles had the same finish - mainly engines, fork sliders, hubs, and brake-plates. The 'cure' we all used at the time was Nitromors to remove the lacquer then decent aluminium polish. Hard work to keep it up but it looked much better than the lacquer ever did.

Diamond cut can be a bit of a pain when you damage them too. All paint and lacquer has to be stripped then put on the lathe skimmed then painted and re lacquered. If it is a deep cut it can be filled before skimming. I have the odd one done, low profiles are a pain. They come up like new though. (y)

Accepted as warranty issue by Hymer, though they are supplying the same wheels and Lowdhams say there is no warranty on the wheels outside of the two year period for the vehicle which will be up in July. I won't even get them until August. Best put some decent wax on them straight away.
