When the time comes to renew your carpets in the MH, do you do it yourself or go to a specialist? The old carpets in ours were stuck down, which I would have thought is a bit unnecessary given all the fittings they have to fit round which would stop it moving. The glue has left quite a mess on the floor underneath.

Hi first thing I do with a new motorhome is remove the carpets and store them in the loft for the day we sell it. Then I buy some decent stuff, generally a remnant and make my own loose fit ones. as you say there are so many corners to fit round they tend not to move anyway. Cant understand anyone wanting to STICK them down. There are products to stop them sliding about if you have a bit that wants to do that.
The trouble with having dogs is that they can trash the carpets and are forever shedding hairs. Just a tip we discovered by accident, to get dog hairs up don't brush or hoover, put on a pair of trainers and slide them over the carpet, they ball up the dog hairs like magic.

I don't understand why people take the carpets out and fit their own, you wouldn't do it when you buy a house or car.....
But, each to their own.
Our original carpets are used in the van, although they are removeable and there is a decent vinyl floor covering underneath. We have 2 dogs and of course they shed hair, we use a handheld Dyson and the above tip with trainers. Every couple of months I take them out and clean them with a Vax carpet washer.
The carpets are still in great condition and look perfect.

I had the good fortune to buy a complete set of carpets for the van a while ago at a very good price, they will be fitted when ours start to look a bit tatty, but certainly won't be saved for the next owner to store in their loft!

When we had a GSD the hairs were a nightmare. We found that a damp car sponge would also roll up the hairs when brushed on the seats. Not such a problem with the Staffy.

Hi.
Our growler had a problem (Water works) now sorted,so out came the carpets,it just so happened that i had kept some "Carpet squares" back when tiling through the house. We have a Renauly Master PVC,with end lounge/beds,with a bit of work with a Stanley knife,i cut and fitted the squares onto the floor of the van,"Surprise, surprise",they have never moved, this may not suit everybody, but it does for us,as by the time we have fitted cushions here and there for her and a mat for her water/food bowls, there's not much floor left to WALK on,let alone SEE!
Just an idea, the squares are various shades of a Blue/green/grey mix ,from three different rooms................Yes!

If you want the edges tidy you should be able to find someone locally who will bind/whip/overlock the edges.

I never understood why they put carpet in a recreational vehicle in the first place. By the vehicles very nature it's not designed to have carpets fitted, constantly cleaning carpets is not my idea of fun, far better to have a hard surface to brush out and much easier to keep clean.

^ This!

I reckon my lino has a good few years in it yet (c:

When it's warm out I'm glad of the cool feel underfoot, when it's cold I carpet my feet with a thick pair of socks which can be cleaned easily by the old fashioned method of "bunging them in the washing machine"

I do exactly as you do alanm,
clean, hoover and vax, they still get trashed. I keep my carpets for the day I sell it privately for a better price or an easier sale . In the car we have replacement mats and in the house in winter we put down carpet protector in the Hall. Current dogs will be our last so when they go perhaps we will leave the originals down. I guess two German Shepherds are what may be termed Heavy Duty, especially as one is a semi long coat. Still we never get broken in to in France or Spain, they did try once and were suitably deterred.
They also tried the trick of flagging us down on the motorway round Barcelona but soon buggered off when they say the dog. So what price a bit of carpet?

Hi @mustaphapint ,
When we had an older A class which the carpets needed to be replaced, we went to our local carpet store , they fitted good quality commercial grade contract carpet, they gave me the choice of binding the edges so it was removable or using double sided sticky tape to fix it down permanently,we went with the latter, great finish lasted the 6 years which we kept the moho, still looked good when we sold it, we have a dog & the carpet being very short pile, we had no prob with dog hairs & cleaned very easy . it worked out a lot cheaper than getting Pilote originals.

As a owner of a carpet shop my advice is go to a good local retailer not Carpetsh1Te and take your existing carpets they should be able to cut and bind to shape lot cheaper than factory made and a better quality also when you sell the motorhome your factory maid carpets are as new, if you have fitted carpets the retailer could arrange the too be fitted this we have done on many times with the owners bringing the vans to the shop.
Hope this helps

Hang on while I look at my watch
There is a place advertising on Ebay that will use your old carpets as templates aand make up new ones. Going to use them when we get home. I think they are in the Bradford area.

We want carpets on the floor to give extra warmth when walking about in bare feet or socks. Our new Hymer came with loose fitted carpets, but they were not brilliant quality and did not look like they would wear well. Thinking ahead we decided to put them in the loft, so when we come to sell the motorhome they will still be in pristine condition.

I then bought some of this Gel backed carpet on line. I used the existing carpet as templates and cut my own with a stanley knife. Gel backed carpets do not need any binding on cut edges and are very hard wearing, being used in industrial situations.

We got a couple of free samples sent and chose which quality we wanted. We are very pleased so far - it may feel a little rough but it is fine even when in bare feet. It does not absorb any dirt and the edges are not fraying at all.

Good advice FIDGET commercial grade carpet is much harder wearing. I was once given an offcut from a stand at the Boat Show, just cant wear it out. Still doubtful about sticking it down though. If you are bothered about the cost of binding which can be substantial a brush round the edges with copydex will stop them fraying.

Lino or wood and a non slip runner with a few rugs at the bed seating areas. If you must glue one down dont buy felt back.

We bought a roll end of Flotex, tough, light, scrubbable kitchen grade carpets. Used the original carpets as templates. It will cut with good scissors or a Stanley knife and does not fray so no need to bind.
