My 2015 Ducato has alloy wheels and I have a steel wheel spare. Does anyone know if the fixing bolts are the same? I contacted Fiat and they could only give me the number for the steel wheel bolt (which has a length of 62mm and thread length of 22mm according to t'internet). When it stops raining I'll take one of my bolts out.

I just spoke to a guy at Tyremen (who I got my spare steel wheel from) and he says bolts are the same. I will check shoulder angles on both wheels if I can.

I bought some steel wheels from a new Hymer. He'd had them changed to alloy by the dealer and they used the same bolts. He too was concerned but they assured him it was correct so he asked them to put it in writing.

@Brian and Jo will know :p or at least better placed to find out.

Personally I don't think tapers have to be the same angle so long as the bolt is long enough and the tapers meet. If they were exactly the same angle the contact area would be so wide they'd most likely seize

I would be very careful in assuming that the bolts are the same, not all ally wheels are the same. The thickness of the aluminium and type of taper are very important.

Are the ally wheels a Fiat supplied part or aftermarket fitted by the dealer.

I had a Hymer caravan with ally wheels and a steel spare the bolts were different, even a different spanner size.

Alloys were factory fit by Burstner so no idea if supplied by Fiat on the base chassis.

Living the dream.
If they are going onto studs then it may be ok but I would think bolts would need to be different lengths.

I am in same situation. Alloy wheels, steel spare.
I have asked every time the van has been to the dealer for warranty work and been assured every time that the bolts are the same.
I have always asked a different mechanic to see if I get a different answer :)

The standard bolts are miles longer than needed for the steel wheels hence why they all say they are OK for the alloys

Just traded caravan in, it had alloy wheels and steel spare supplied from new with different bolts for the spare. By eye the difference was length. Imagine the same would be true with MoHo.

I have alloys and a steel spare. I checked with main Fiat agent in Norwich who confirmed no different stud required.

Thats comforting, but I wold still like it if someone had actually managed to put a steel wheel on with the supplied alloy bolts.
id try it myself except we are touring Morocco at the moment and the garage is rammed full of stuff and I don't want to spend a day unloading it to get the spare out and then reload it all again.
and anyway I'm not sure since my op whether I would be capable of handling the weight of the wheels.

Yes the hardest bit is lifting and locating wheel on hub while trying to line up studs with holes.
I would use my roadside assistance where possible.

A further comment to all the good advice given is that the recommended torque settings are higher for a steel wheel. (At least that was the case with caravans where my experience lies).
Recent convert to MoHo still awaiting delivery!
