Hi all,

Does anyone have any advice on who I can arrange breakdown cover with for european travel?

I have cover through Caravan Club/Green Flag for the UK but am struggling to find a decent quote for travelling in europe.

Ive looked at the Caravan Club but that includes medical cover etc etc which I don't need and both the AA & RAC have maximum weight limits of 3500kgs (My hymer is rated to 3900kgs)

I have also looked at ADAC but they seem to only accept German Adresses.

Any advice would be great

Many thanks

Paul

Since 2011 therefore I'm not a newbie anymore
Caravan club do three types of travel insurance. 1 Breakdown, 2. Breakdown and Personal. 3 . Personal

I thought I had Breakdown and Personal but only had Breakdown, do got personal cover from Axa

You can always try camping and Caravan Club who use RAC, beware if you need personal insurance both clubs are expensive.

not long enough
we are with RAC because they take over 3.5t but I think we had to book it through C + CC

next year I intend to get ADAC it seems to be so much better value

Another vote for adac.. pretty unbeatable

We are with the ADAC too, my only gripe is that they will only cover me for 45 days in Europe, and it was very expensive to increase the time covered abroad, about £190 as I recall, unless anyone knows different.

since 2007, 25 years tuggin before that.
RAC through C&CC( it's called "Arrival")
Your insurance company should be able to offer you breakdown as well.

ADAC is probably your best option now, but bear in mind at insurance renewal time companies like Safeguard and Comfort offer European breakdown cover as pretty much standard on their policies.

Don't understand where you get the 45 days from, I believe that that is the time for medical cover outside of Europe which is limited to 92 days when in Europe.
Breakdown cover is all year.

Sorry, yes Mikeco, you are right, getting my facts wrong again, I queried the length of medical cover for our trip to the USA in May.

We have UK & EU breakdown cover via our insurance with Comfort.

Our previous insurers, CaravanGuard, also offered it.

Long term a few years now.
We are with Safeguard 365 days breakdown included UK and Europe. Our van is 4600kg .
Would have probably gone with ADAC for breakdown cover otherwise.

Not had dealings with them but.
It appears to be AXA .. covers motorhomes under 6.5m .. have a read of the policy and you'll see its nowhere near as good as adac

Your insurance company should be able to offer you breakdown as well.

I use the RAC but they are a bunch of lying cheating scumbags.

I had to be recovered a couple of years ago (UK) and, despite what they'd told me on the phone, their operative turned up and measured my van, claimed that it was over 19' and they could only take 19' on my policy without charging an extra £450!!! As it was getting late and lady Bacchus wasn't very well I had to pay it. Their truck driver then refused to drop us home 2 miles from the garage where they dropped the van (and on his way back to the M25). Journey about 25 miles, so about £18 per mile PLUS the annual membership.

I shall investigate ADAC, anything I could do to avoid these charlatans I would.
