I have been notified by the dealer that my new Harley Davison Ultra Glide 1690cc motorcycle is now in. I am going up this weekend to take a look (Nottingham) but i now need to sort out the insurance.

After doing the norm and going through the compare sites i cant seem to get a decent price on this. I am not young (over 40) and i passed my bike test back in 1989. All the quotes are coming in over £600. Now perhaps i have been out of the game for too long and this is the norm but i would of thought it would be a lot lower than this.

Anyone know of any insurers that these comparison sites dont take into account?

I do also have a 300cc scooter but not had this long less than 2 year so only 1 years no claims on bike, probably why it is so high. I will have to bit the bullet but if i can get it cheaper than £600 it would be a bonus.

Depends on postcode value and previous insurance history I expect.
Have 2 bikes
2007 650cc Versys value £2000 pay £70.00
2015 S2000XR value £14000 pay £140.00
Age 62 had bikes and full licence over40 years.
Personally always use comparison sites.

Sold a Harley 1800 Electra glide last year. I insured through Harley themselves, at what I considered a fair price. I am slightly more advanced in years though, but wouldn't have thought that would make a big difference.

A friend of our's always used NFU, could be worth a try. I also understand that Direct Line are very competitive, neither appear on comp. sites. May be worth a phone call.

Rang CarolNash and they want to refer it to Markerstudy which I am not going to do based on the bad reviews on here. Apparently the reason most online companies wont quote is because of what the bike is worth. Bennets wanted over 1k so thats out, Will keep looking,

I rang carol stash about there 6 wheel policy.
Basically they said that they couldn't beat my two separate quotes, and that was that...basically not enough in it for them.
But in your case it might be worth a try

If Bikesure are MCE under another name (no clue if they are associated in any way), personally I'd give them a wide berth. Devitt are far more professional in my experience (started using them when I had a BMW, because they were the agent for the BMW insurance scheme at the time). MCE couldn't even get policy details correct without multiple follow up calls to barely trained call centre staff (when you can get through). Plus their approach seems to be high excess on core policy, with a package of different insurances to cover facets such as said excess, protective clothing etc. Just didn't give me confidence if you had to pursue a significant claim with them. Never again.

Personally don't know who's who in the insurance world and don't really care as they're all crooks without exception imo. Insurance is a necessary evil so we have to suck it up and smile even though we know we're being shafted.:(
Bikesure apparently is the motorcycle specialist arm of Adrian Flux don't know if that means anything but there you go a lot less than OP said he could get quoted.:)(y)

gocompare would only give me 2 quotes

Bike Sure (with 1 year no claims £500 or without £700) would need to cancel the scooter policy and buy that seperately.
MCE £7000 with 1 years no claims (not bloody likely)

Still bike sure are £100 cheaper than the harley dealer at present.

The difference I've got full bike no claims.

Have you tried Aviva? No knowledge of them now but as Norwich Union they used to be good for bike insurance.

7k is a mad quote, says to me they just don't want the business. At least the Bikesure quote was within reasonable realms by comparison.

Have you tried http://www.motorcycledirect.co.uk/ or https://www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk/ch...I-BR-e-t-1t1&gclid=CMepi8uqtcsCFUWfGwodYP4D9A

Don't HD run any manufacturer backed insurance schemes which may be worth a look (the BMW one used to be really competitive as an example)

Edit: Broken Link Removed

May also be worth sounding out the likes of LV to see if they are at all competitive?

I know nothing of this bunch, but recall seeing comments on bike forums a few years back about their being competitive - https://www.falcon-bikes.co.uk

Just had a look at some of my old docs, I think MCE are synonymous with BikeDevil, not Bikesure, I had conflated the two.

Imagine my confusion, having had absolutely no dealings with an insurance firm by the name of BikeDevil, when I started receiving official documents from them following repetitive attempts to correct the erroneous policy details I had been sent by MCE!

Mike bought exactly the same bike @zac nearly a month ago, he was quoted £450 with Carole Nash Harley specialist bit, fully comp, European cover, 5000 miles with 4 years no claims. He bought MCE insurance, same cover and details for £177. Enjoy your new toy.

Carolnash is a no go as they want to put it thought Markeystudy broker. Harley do have an isurance arm but they were quoting £600. My issue is although i have had many large bikes (Honda Pan european 1100st, BMW K1200 etc) it has not been for a while so my no claims is almost non existent. I do have the 1 years no claims on the scooter and it looks as though that is worth around £200 to transfer so that will be an option.

I will get the dealer to quote whilst i am there as need to sort something before it is delivered in a few weeks time.

Called Harley Insurance and this time I added the scooter to the policy as couldnt do that online, this came out at £585 which although still high is better than most of the others. The insurance on the Scooter is normally £108 but that is with 1 years no claims that i now need to transfer onto the Harley to get the price lower. It looks as though i will have to go with that but it is still a lot more than i was expecting considering age etc.

I found the Harley insurance policy came with "extras" as standard. Clothing for instance. Is there a possibility of removing some for a lower quote.

I did ask but they said it was part of the policy (helmets and clothing up to £1250), i need to check with the dealer to see if these new bikes come with any sort of breakdown warranty as the insurance also includes this which i may or may not need.

Apparently the reason most online companies wont quote is because of what the bike is worth.

Then get a different bike to build up your ncb. You're likely to drop it anyway, better to drop a used one.

Why would i want to do that, i might drop dead in a few months whilst waiting to build up my ncb, I tend to live life for today as tomorrow may never happen. Still it is still expensive but if that is the best it is then i will of course be paying it. Cancelling the order now would also cost me more than what the insurance would cost.

I pay £180.00 fully comp on a honda Valkyrie 1600cc ,full ncb I use bikeshure

that's a very good price, once i get some ncb behind me i am hoping it will drop. Still it is now insuring 2 bikes so if i knock off £108 for the scooter it brings it down to around £477 which seems better considering the bike is new and the value.

After a bit of haggling managed to get both bikes including europe breakdown cover for £535 which although high works out cheaper than getting 2 seperate polices. This is with Harley themselves who i believe use CarolNash which is somewhat strange as when i called them they couldnt quote as they said it needed a bespoke quote. Anyway all done now and paid for, hopefully next year will be a lot cheaper (live in hope).

Thanks to all who replied. :)
