Most commonly for me it is Montreuil if crossing later in the day, Nonancourt if crossing earlier. but could be elsewhere if my destination does not take me in that direction.

Depends on which way you turn at Calais. If I turn right I favour Montreuil. If turning left probably Gravelines or, if you can travel for an hour, Ypres. This was our first ever Aire and it is more like an Automated Campsite to us -Probably still our favourite!

Down the west side Parc Futuroscope north of Poitiers.

For Brittany it would be Fougeres.

Down the east side it's usually Seurre, below Dijon.

If heading into Germany it's the Amneville leisure complex, north of Metz.

We arrive early and don't hang around :)

sorry should have said - heading for west coast of France , Brittany and then down coast to Spain.
We are about 2 1/2 hrs from Dover so not sure what ferry to catch, early or late, will depend on where we head for first night.

Stop overnight at Canterbury P&R, catch the early ferry (cheaper) and you could be into Brittany on your first night in France with spare time to look around the town. That's why we head for Fougeres. There's also a decent sized supermarket on the road back out to the autoroute.

Late ferry/tunnel (cheap) then either Bolougne or Baie de Somme.

Wake up in France with an easy day's drive ahead.

Hi.
mickyc does it the other way round to us,we stop at Boulogne Aire on the way back. Last time it was 3euro,but the barrier was broken in the....Open position, within 100 yds of the Aire, you can be on the beach, loads of walks for the growler,so i to can recommend it. Cheap Diesel at Le Clerks ? but use the LORRY pumps,to the left, you can switch the read out to English, and it will take most cards.....Result.
You will be spoilt for choice on the way across to Brittany,so,no worries..

How long does it take you to get from Calais to Fougeres? I am trying to work out some French long weekends, so much easier than camping in the UK.

Have they put a barrier at the boulogne aire? It was 5 euros a few years back and a gendarme called for money. We sometimes stay at the aire in boulogne next to casino no services but 5 min to centre

We almost always cross on the tunnel at about 8pm . If we go south (as normal) then we always stop at Neufchatel-en-Bray.

It's about 300 miles from Calais - I usually assume 50mph on average, so about 6 hours. Fougeres is close to Rennes, the regional capital, and all Breton roads lead to/from Rennes, so on day 2 it's a relatively short hop to wherever you're going.
