I have always used White Spirit to remove the glue that gets left on your headlights. You don't want to use anything too aggressive on plastics.

Personal experience, the best way is as follows:
Turn on headlamps to full beam, now go get a credit card, you need to leave the lights on for a bit to build up the heat. It's best to do this in the summer, should have said this earlier, if not, a hair-dryer will help. When warm, carefully peal back the deflector, whilst lifting the adhesive layer with the credit card :D It comes off in one hit

When i was a smoker i would just use my Zippo petrol for anything like this. You can buy a liquid called sticky stuff remover what is quite good but almost anything petrol based will do the job.

Proper glass headlamp.....a stanley knife blade held almost flat to the glass and use a sawing action.... dont worry, you wont scratch it
Plastic glass....leave them on.

Not tried this on headlights but "tea tree oil" works well to remove other sticky residue from the van.

Agree, why do you want them off, never had any problems driving with them on and passed three mots with the same ones still on(y):)

Another vote for white spirit, applied with part of an old towel, which is rough enough to remove residue without scratching.

I use the pink cream windolene. Just rub gently and the sticky residue comes off. That's assuming you can use it on headlights??

Yes but Windolene is abrasive so you will actually scratch plastic with it, albeit very fine scratches. Good on glass and utterly brilliant for a deep gloss shine on plastic lavatory seats - the thick hard plastic ones you have at home - not the bendy ones in a Moho!

(A neighbour of my sister's once knocked the bottle off the ledge whilst enthusiastically cleaning her bathroom window - after 'merely' scrubbing their one with detergent and bleach etc for about 3 years - and was astonished. So I tried it - and it really works)

Glad you told me Sedge. I have used Windolene on lots of things and it has worked easily. I've used it on plastic ive not noticed the fine scratches but will be more careful in future.
Will have a go at the toilet seats at home.
