Flashed by camera in France, do they follow up? (1 Viewer)

Forgot to mention this, I had sort of forgotten but when cross with me this morning Bev reminded me

Coming off the free bit of motorway from Calais to Boulogne, came off just before tolls and going down the hill forgot we were 5 tons, there is a 50kph limit down the hill above 3.5t, were doing about 60 and got flashed

I am hopeful they might look at photo of motorhome and not pursue it, or have any of you made same mistake and been pursued?

I am guilty as charged and will pay, but hope not to have to, I also fear that they might impose a maximum fine as they did to me the only other time I got stopped, not sure how the French system works whether they have set fines for how much over you are.

My last offence (really stupid on my part) I had removed my snooper as they are illegal in France but left the detector behind the rear view mirror, never really thought about that, stopped in a queue, police motorbike pulled me over and produced a printed translation of the offence, I tried to explain it was only a sensor, but it seems that alone is still an offence. The sheet said maximum fine 1000 euros, which is what he asked me for in cash having escorted me to a barracks. I carry that kind of cash so was able to pay, they added salt to the wound by sending me an further bill for 220 euros for disposing of the sensor they had impounded. A lesson learnt very hard

You won't be fined a lot if fined at all.
If you were to be 1) found and 2) fined, then it would only be 45 euros if you pay with a bank card, straight on their site within 30 days .

You were only 5 kms an hour above the limit. When the limit is 50 they start fining you when their flashing machine catches you at 56. They leave 5 over the speed limit as a possible mistake from the machine.

Had it been 30 over the speed limit , so in fact 35 according to their own rules, then your fine would have been at least 135 euros.
Not too bad then ... could have been much worse!

It depends on many things..We got flashed onew night last year ( lashing rain, high winds,did not even SEE the 70kph sign until it was WAY too late )
I was doing about 80kph as usual.. never heard anything.
I suspect it depends mainly on you much over the limit you were.
ut if it is followed up then you can cop not only the fine but apparently, since 2 years ago, the points too ( though this may just be an urban myth as although I had a mail from a good trade source and have seen it posted elsewhere I do not know anyone who has actually fallen foul

I got flashed on a toll road on the way back from Paris about 3 years ago 100kph in a 80kph zone, nothing came of it but it is my understanding that the offence remains on their records and should you get stopped in France at any time this may become an issue. Hopefully I am wrong but someone on here must know how the system works.

I have been 'flashed' a few times in France but never heard anything. With me it has been in zones where vehicles over 3.5T have a lower limit. I guess the camera probably works on height of vehicle and assumes everything above a certain height is HGV.

I wonder. How does a camera know what is going past it? I am meant to only do 50mph on the country roads and 70 on the motorway due to being a van but do 60 and 70 as i think the camera will never know what went past. I see many a time other vans and trucks slow down to 50 on country roads. Are the gray box cameras that clever?

knowing my luck they will stick my registration in pending, this is one area where a private plate could be a nuisance, particularly if you have sold it

Is a sat nav with speed warnings in the same fine bracket as a Snooper or is it a lesser fine. I have never bothered to negate the function on my Sat Nav, since I find it so useful in keeping to the variable speed limits.

Got flashed near Niort August 2014, was a 70kmh limit, quick look at sat nav said 78kmh and decreasing as I was slowing for the roundabout.
Was also concerned last year that they may be alerted by ANPR of an outstanding speeding offence from 2014 and I was back on French soil. So far nothing, however I did think they were going to use agencies in the UK to follow up offences?
Sorry France, but your rapid changes of speed limits catches me out. Single carriageway 90kmh, then 70kmh as you approach a roundabout then 50kmh.

Been flashed on numerous occasions and never heard anything.

On a similar note when we imported van from Germany (on German export plates), I went through Dartford Crossing and forgot to pay the following day. That was nearly a year ago now and I've heard nothing. Think the talk that foreign registered vehicles are being chased for not paying Dartford is a load of cobblers.

But I think having speed limit warnings is OK - just don't rely on them as they are not always up to date.

That could get very challenging proving either way, if stopped unless right by a camera at that time TT would be silent, if they knew enough to go through the set up it would be very hard to prove they hadn't just turned them on

As far as I know they are a standard feature on a TT, so although they can be turned on and off they are effectively still in the device as an option

Going to look a bit harder for a way to disable them at least before we leave this layby

That applies to the TT doesn't it? It doesn't actually detect the radar or camera, but simply the location of stretch of dangerous road which might or might not coincide with the position of a camera. As regards the speed facility, I drive by it rather than the inaccurate and difficult to see speedo (particularly when you are attempting to read the kph part of the UK speedo).

But according to my Aquitaine living motorcycling acquaintance the Police & Gendarmes have no right to enter the vehicle whatsoever without basically what is a search warrant ,or one of them is the head bloke. I.e. the shift supervisor.
Different if you "invite" them when they ask.So you should never.

Do not allow them to enter the vehicle by "invitation"
Only the customs " Douane" have the right to enter the vehicle.

We reported him to the local Police and he received a fine!
