We have just had our first trip in our hew motorhome and love it but the oven is very very slow (gas) took 45 mins just to take the chill off defrosted oven chips. We can see the flame is burning quite low.
The oven (no label or name discernible) is ten years old. (Like the van) Is it possible to have them serviced? If so where would I go or should I ring an oven engineer?
Any thoughts? Or should we just buy another oven? Any idea of the cost and who would fit it?
Still newbies I'm afraid.
Any help much appreciated.

This topic comes up a lot some supplied ovens are just not fit for purpose.
We spend months at a time in our van and do like to cook our own food especially roast meat n veg. We have a Smev oven which is fantastic our van is an 02 and its the original oven.

Ours was low but it was due to the fact we were also trying to use the boiler, the gas fire and 2 rings at the same time. Perhaps you were using too many items?

We have the smev oven. Don't think it was original specifications in the 2003 hymer so must have been added later.
It does take a lot longer to cook things but it gets there in the end although things do need turning as it gets hotter at back than front !
A service may help

ours is very good, its 11 years old and really does the job...

do you have a good flame? might be worth running a hover over the (when cold) burner

are you using propane?

we have had ovens in both our vans, both excellent, but with some you need to put them on highest setting and get them really hot before putting the food in and turning them down. A service on a 10 YO oven would be a good move, no saying how furred up the pipes might be.

We can see the flame is burning quite low.

If the flame is blue but just low, that would indicate either a blocked jet and or low gas pressure ..

if the cooker burner flames are normal, then the pressure is probably ok, but should be checked.

have it serviced with a new jet fitted... at any caravan dealer or DIY

Are you using Butane or Propane? I have SMEV in a B584. It isn't as quick as some but no problem to use.

We had our oven taken out when we bought the van because our past experience was so bad. The budget Smev oven most German manufacturers seem to fit is awful. When we bought a new Hobby caravan a few years ago we found it took ages to get hot and took ages to heat anything never mind cook food. Had to buy a halogen oven in the end. Complained to the dealer who told us they were all the same and Hobby knew but were doing nothing. Buy a remoska and a baby generator

We've had two smev ovens, last one was poor, current one better but not perfect.... we tend to double cooking times and regularly turn whatever's in the oven.
