Side door gates for dogs ? (1 Viewer)

Does anyone on MF have any suggestions what we can use as an expandle lightweight gate/grid to fit across the side sliding door on our van (Peugeot Boxer - Autosleeper) to keep the dog in the van when the sidedoor is open on site ?
I have googled it but havent found anything yet apart from gigantic heavy cage frames best suited for Jurassic Park

We've got the same problem with our pup. A couple of extending shower poles or clothes poles with net curtain between them could be the answer.

You could use something like the retractable baby gates, they are wide, but would need fixing on

A friend made a very good motorhome dog guard from plastic plumbing pipe, T pieces and right angle bends. It was light weight but very strong.

Most stuff I found were travel stairgates but this freestanding one did crop up

You can get retractable baby gates that roll back into themselves but they are around 50 quid. Look at retractable blinds or car boot covers.

If you just need a barrier that your dog respects, trellis or the pressure poles with material work.
If your dog is like ours and just going to test and push until they get out you need a fixed gate.
We had this in our 1st pvc made from a baby barrier the type that are made up into a play pen, we cut it to size to fit wide opening. It was fixed by screws into the floor and screwed to the side cupboard it was removed when we sold it, just heated the vinyl floor to close up holes and plastic stops over the cupboard side.

It didn't fit our second van though due to having a lower step area preventing the use of a gate with a fixed bar bottom, we searched everywhere to find a suitable baby gate but all were too wide.
Nige has just made this one from lightweight fencing which is attached to the cabinet side via a post we tried it last week in york and works well just needs painting up now.

The post has just two screw points and we added strips of the no nails pads before screwing in place.
The catch on the plastic moulding is just attached via a no nails strip so can be removed with no damage to the plastic.

Saw these at a show some years back and was impressed although I had already fitted a child stair gate to our then Hymer 694 that had a wall both sides of the hab door.

Trellis from a garden centre

I use that - just sand the sharp bits if they go against furniture. An Aerolastic (shock cord) top to bottom keeps it expanded. (And goes round it to keep it tidy for storage).

I Installed a retract-a-gate in our utility room recently as space is a premium, even more so in a MH. These are easy to Install and take up almost no space and can be used one handed, worth a look if you're wanting a more long term solution

To be honest, we've never needed a gate. Our dogs have been either outside on a rubber covered steel cable, or in. We don't have an awning , pen or run.

Same for us. 99% of the time they're tethered to a carabiner that's hooked onto the chassis, otherwise it's bed time and then they are inside.
