Just got our 2015 Rapido 600FF:-) (1 Viewer)

Will be using it most weeks for travelling or short breaks. Can anyone confirm it is ok to leave water in etc if it is plugged into mains and CH set at say 12 degrees and hot water set at 40 degrees? May get frosty but if van is warm will systems be ok?

Any advice is appreciated thanks.

Congrats on van, we leave our water in and van plugged in with heating on low, in our avatar pic that was 2 weeks ago and it got to - 6* here at night and van was fine.

That's what I do with my rollerteam and no problems. I'd leave the waste water tank empty and tap open in case of frost

Hi and welcome on board. You will read many different opinions on the above........ Sometimes we drain the system completely and leave the van cold, other times I leave the heating on minimum and water in the system, as we have done for the last few weeks. I did drain out the FW tank a week ago, something we do every now and then. Never use the FW for drinking anyway, we take bottled water for that since the fresh tank is filled from our softened water supply. The are no really right or wrong ways, only different - if the van gets cold then the FW heater will dump anyway and being a Rapido, your van should be winterised

I know some leave fresh water tanks filled, but I tend to drain and fill with fresh before leaving on a trip. I think a lot will depend if you use it for drinking water or not.
There are discussion threads on here about leaving the heating on or not, I don`t but many do and there are many opinions as to which is best.

I always drain down, chlorine dispensers in water after a few days and bacteria starts to grow, not good to leave water in tanks.

Never had a problem, though, even with water that has been in there a few weeks.... I do tend to drain down as per my earlier post, usually by pumping over into the grey waste and draining that. I use a specialised bug testing kit, by the way

We never leave water in our tanks, never have the heating on ... what's the point in wasting electric etc (and the charger being on all the time) when simply emptying the tank solves the problem.

We drink the water from the main tank however even if we didn't I still would want to use water that's been left in it for a few weeks ... if you want to see what happens to water if it's been 'stagnant' put some in a glass for a couple of weeks without moving it and see what happens ... when you empty it out and you'll probably be able to feel (although not see) a small coating of slime on the inside of the glass ... yuk!

Whilst people say they don't drink it they still tend to use it for brushing teeth, hand washing etc!

Thanks for all replies. I was aware the FW dumped when below 5 degrees but what stops it doing this if we are using the van on holiday if v cold? May be a daft ? but doesnt seem to make sense!

Don't worry - we use bottled water and in any case boiling does tend to kill anything. As above, we do drain down on a regular basis but if you are going to get bugs, you are going to get bugs, unless you can guarantee that your whole system is completely dry......... One reason why I use a professional bug testing kit ( something to do with my previous employment )

Not a daft question at all. If you are in the van then the water will not dump as you have the heating/services on. I think that all Rapidos have inboard water tanks, not under slung like British vans (even inferior Burstners have inboard FW tanks - on going joke rivalry between the two marques..........) so if you are in there, it won't happen. Unless you happen to like living in an igloo......

Edit - following on from the above discussion about water, I did forget to mention that every so often (6 months or more likely when I can be arsed to do it) I do wash out the FW tank and also treat with a small amount of Puriclean, rinsing out throughly

We leave the van plugged in normaly there's just an oil filled rad running on low but if it gets cold we will stick the heating on low. We use the van every few weeks and always leave it ready to go. We don't drink unboiled water from the FW tank either. We prefer cold bottled water from the fridge (as does the dug). We clean the tank once a year (ish).

As per the "law" on here I have attached a photo of our new baby. Cant wait to get out and about. The layout seems fine and she drives like a car Added tracker and alarm so she doen't get lost!

I have drained the FW tank but want to leave the heating on (elec 1 as on EHU). When the FW tank is empty the pumps keep running when taps are all off. Can the boiler still work with the FW tank empty or is it trying to pull water hence the pump being on?

...I have switched water pump off at the panel and left CH on electric which appears to be working.
